CAPRICORN FULL MOON - 3 July 2023

Exact at 12.38pm UK time (BST)

There is some interesting planetary energy around for this Full Moon, that’s for sure! With Pluto now in Capricorn and squaring the Nodes of the Moon, the focus is on our soul growth and personal and collective evolution, which isn’t always easy! Full Moons tend to bring to fruition whatever energetic seeds were planted during the New Moon two weeks before, not to mention that they illuminate whatever may be simmering beneath the surface of our consciousness in the build-up to the Moon. Indeed, this Moon could bring some kind of release that is necessary for us to move forward. Sometimes we allow things to build up to such an extent that they end up erupting a bit like unblocking a water pipe, or a dam bursting open!

The Sun entered sensitive, emotional, nurturing Cancer on the Solstice and is sitting directly opposite the Moon in responsible, cautious, hardworking Capricorn during this Moon. This can highlight the differences between the two signs, but they both have something to offer each other so it is important to develop a healthy balance between the two energies. The Capricorn part of us is willing to take responsibility for ourselves and others and will work long and hard to get to the top of whatever mountain we have chosen to climb, and to achieve whatever goal we have set ourselves. Capricorn encourages us to grow up and act with maturity, recognising when we need to control our emotions, for whatever reason that seems appropriate at that time. However, this can go too far if we suppress or repress our emotions for too long so that they end up coming out in distorted ways later down the line, and this is where Cancer comes in as a nice counterbalance.

Cancer is the sign that helps us to get in touch with our emotions and also to express them. Those of us with more Capricorn may fear being vulnerable, preferring to control our emotions and hold them in, whereas the Cancer part of us is adept at showing how we feel and admitting when we are hurt or need help. However, the shadow side of Cancer is the perennial child who can easily become too needy or reliant on others, has a resistance to fully growing up and can be too much at the mercy of their emotions. Capricorn, on the other hand, encourages us to pull our socks up and get on with it, accepting responsiblity for ourselves. Capricorn teaches us emotional maturity and helps us to master our emotions. We can’t control how others feel or how they behave towards us, but we do have that capacity to control our response to their behaviour.

Sometimes it helps to take a step back and take the time to process our feelings so that we can respond in a mature and measured manner, so long as we don’t go too far and hold the feelings in so that the other person isn’t able see how we truly feel. Vulnerability can be a strength, that’s for sure, even though it is easy to perceive it as weakness. It is a fine balance and not very easy, to show our feelings in a considerate and grown-up manner when our inner child is feeling hurt or wounded and we are far from rational! Capricorn is also the part of us that takes our duties very seriously. While Cancer is the part of us that cares about others and wants to protect them and make sure they are ok, Capricorn is the part of us that will actually step up to the plate and take responsibility for those we care about.

Mercury is sitting right next to the Sun in Cancer and is opposing the Moon, which could mean that communication plays a big part in this Moon. This could be a good time to let people know how we really feel, as Mercury in Cancer is adept at speaking from the heart. Our emotions could get the better of us, however, as they can easily cloud reason or make it hard to think logically and speak clearly. However, if there is something we need to clear up, this could be a good Moon for being able to put our emotions into words so that our loved ones will understand. However, it is also important that we listen, so that we can truly understand others’ feelings as well as our own. Cancer energy can make us a bit subjective.

Jupiter in Taurus is supporting both the Sun and Moon, which brings much potential for growth and expansion. Jupiter can help us to see the bigger picture, and combined with Mercury’s influence, this Moon could help us to put some missing puzzle pieces together and gain a broader understanding of whatever we are going through. Possibly this Moon could help us to make sense of all that we have been experiencing in recent times and Jupiter could bring a sense of higher perspective and gratitude for the growth that it has brought us. Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn, is also supporting the Sun, helping us to be pragmatic and to see things as they really are, and to step up and take responsibility for ourselves.

However, there is some more combustible energy around, with Uranus, the Great Awakener and harbinger of change forming a dynamic and challenging square aspect to Venus and Mars, the cosmic lovers. The square to Mars was exact on 26 June but will still be in effect during the Full Moon. This could cause people to act differently and even erratically, rattling our cages somewhat. However, the square between Uranus and Venus is exact the day before the Full Moon, which could bring sudden changes in the realm of our relationships and finances and may also help to liberate us from any unhealthy conditioning in this area of our lives. It might help to look at which houses Uranus and Venus are in right now, as it could give insight into what area of our lives will be impacted.

Uranus does bring the potential for sudden shocks but can also help us to gain perspective on our relationships and money/self/worth issues, which can help set us back on track somehow.  Sometimes we need a bit of a jolt to get us out of a rut and to see things more clearly. Those with personal planets or angles around 21° of a sign will be feeling the liberating, enlivening energy of Uranus most acutely, especially in the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. Uranus reminds us “To thine own self be true” and helps to undo any unhelpful programming or conditioning that is holding us back from being our own unique, special, authentic, true Self. Uranus brings freedom and helps to liberate us from any unhealthy patterns and stagnant ruts that are preventing growth.

The overriding planetary energy of the moment, however, is Pluto square the Nodes. This is building in intensity and will be exact on 22 July. However, when the Nodes switch into cardinal signs on 17 July the energy will probably ramp up somewhat. Pluto forces us to face the truth of the matter, even if we would much prefer to ignore, bury or deny it. It exposes the shadows and forces us to peer underneath the surface and bring out the ugly, gritty, gnarly bits. However, when we take a trip into the underworld, we also have the potential to come back with some buried treasure. We may have to face some uncomfortable material and be absolutely honest with ourselves, but the potential for soul growth is profound.

This is happening on both a personal and collective level, the exposing, detoxing energy of Pluto. The darkness must come out into the light. The truth must be revealed, as much as it might make us squirm. Any challenges that we face right now, either from people or situations in our lives, can bring a tremendous amount of psychological insight, and any resistance we feel will most likely be pointing to the area of greatest growth. And the resistance could be huge! I cannot overemphasise the important of this configuration, as it does feel like a moment in time when we can really take a step forward in our evolution, but only if we are willing to confront ourselves and strip away any layers of self-deceit so that we can see the bare bones truth of the matter. And that is not easy or comfortable but is absolutely necessary. If we don’t, we miss an amazing opportunity.

However, sometimes Pluto leaves us with no choice, as it can bring a giant cosmic kick up the bum! Those of us with personal planets or angles around 29° of a sign, especially the Cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, will feel the energy of this square most acutely. However, anyone with planets or angles around 0° of the Fixed signs will also be feeling it, as the Nodes are still in Scorpio and Taurus until 17 July.

The Sabian symbol for this Moon, at 12° Capricorn, feels somewhat appropriate, given Mercury and Jupiter’s role in this Moon, combined with Pluto and the Nodes: “An illustrated lecture on natural science reveals little-known aspects of life”, which Dane Rudyar describes as: “The ability to explore unfamiliar realms and discover the laws underlying the complex processes of nature. The emphasis here is on the acquisition of extensive knowledge, the satisfaction of intellectual curiosity. Nevertheless, there is also an aristocracy of science; this is the modern type. Its use of acquired knowledge can pose as many problems as the use of hereditary aristocratic wealth. But it is man’s essential function to become fully conscious of all life forms and processes on this earth. Mankind is the conscious mind of the planet. Civilisation is founded on an ever-extended capitalisation on knowledge and use of technology. It features EXPLORATION pre-eminently at all levels.”

This Moon is coming at an important time in our evolution, both personal and collectively. It will be interesting to see what comes to the surface as the Moon becomes full, and what is revealed. What was going on around the time of the Gemini New Moon on 18 June that might now be ready to come out or come to fruition? Ultimately a Capricorn Full Moon calls for us to be accountable somehow, to take full responsibility for whatever is occurring in our lives, and not hide or run away. There is the potential for us to gain some clear understanding of our situation during this Moon, and to see the bigger picture and see how it all fits in. Not only that, but we may also have the opportunity to verbalise it so that we are fully heard and understood. One of Capricorn’s greatest superpowers is integrity. This involves doing the right thing, even if it isn’t easy.

Much Love
