CANCER FULL MOON - 15/16 January 2014

Exact Thursday 16 January @ 4.52am GMT and Wednesday 15 January @ 11.52pm EST!

This Full Moon could be quite emotional as it is in the watery, emotional sign of Cancer which is in fact ruled by the Moon. Full Moons tend to bring things to a head and whatever may have been bubbling below the surface over the course of the previous couple of weeks have a tendency to burst out into the open as the Moon reaches its peak. This Moon is no exception! While the Moon itself is largely unaspected, except for a supportive and harmonious aspect from Saturn, the cosmic lovers, Venus and Mars, are at loggerheads with each other which could cause a considerable amount of tension within our relationships. This is especially so because this aspect comes to a head at the same time as the Moon reaches its climax. Whatever isn’t working within our relationships could become glaringly obvious under the light of this Full Moon! The good news is that Mercury and Uranus are forming a supportive and harmonious aspect to each other, helping us to speak our truth with sincerity and objectivity while also allowing us to come up with solutions to whatever may come up for us. While emotions could be riding high during this Moon, we should be able to find some level of understanding of where they are coming from.

Full Moons represent the moment in the month when the Moon sits directly opposite the Sun, creating a need for balance between the two signs which hold the luminaries. This month the Moon is in emotional, sensitive and nurturing Cancer while the Sun is almost at the end of his stay in serious, pragmatic and responsible Capricorn. Cancer represents the home, family and our emotional roots and behavioural patterns which stem from childhood. Our relationships with our mother and father have a massive impact on our relationships as adults and what happens when we are young creates the foundation for our emotional lives and is largely unconscious. This Moon could make us very aware of such patterns as the come to the surface in the form of unreasonable and irrational behaviour, so watch out! While Cancer represents our inner life and emotional foundation, Capricorn shows how we go out into the world and create outer success for ourselves. The Sun in Capricorn highlights our ambitions, our career and life purpose and reason for being. It is of course very important that our foundation is secure before we go out into the world and make something of ourselves. This Moon emphasises the need to have a healthy and nurturing inner/home life as it is the base from which we go out into the world.

This Moon could well bring up some strong emotions based on old patterns formed when we were very young. Emotions are not rational at all and have a tendency to take us over despite ourselves. This is where Saturn comes in – the voice of reason! He is the ruler of the Capricorn Sun and will help us stay grounded in reality and could give us more of an understanding of where the emotions are coming from rather than simply drowning in them. He is the stern parent helping us gain control of our emotions, making sense of them and how they might be ruling us. He forces us to be real.  Saturn is in Scorpio and this Full Moon provides us with an opportunity to recognise and release old, outworn behavioural patterns that no longer serve us in our relationships. Scorpio asks us to dig beneath the surface and discover what holds us back from real trust and intimacy within our relationships. During this Moon he is gently urging us to allow ourselves to be vulnerable and reveal how we truly feel, deep inside. The truth of it, not the sugar coating.

Venus and Mars, the cosmic lovers, are forming a challenging aspect with each other which will be almost exact as the Moon reaches its climax. This could create some tension within our relationships, especially those which are shaky already. As Venus is retrograde in Capricorn at the moment this could well bring up any old, unresolved problems within our relationships and make us very aware where there is a lack of balance. While Venus is retrograde it causes us to review and reflect upon all matters related to Venus, such as relationships, values and how we attract money. In Capricorn this could cause us to restructure and redefine our relationships and re-evaluate how we go about achieving financial security. When Venus and Mars challenge each other at can definitely ignite our passions and cause any underlying tension to erupt and if we combine this with the Full Moon then emotions could ride rather high in our personal relationships! We have the Moon (mother) opposing the Sun (father) as well and Venus (divine feminine/anima) challenging Mars (divine Masculine/animus)! The battle could be internal as well as external as we are all currently being challenged to find a healthy mix between the feminine and masculine within us as the Divine Feminine rises up after being held down for so very long.

As I said, Mercury is forming a supportive aspect to Uranus, the Great Awakener, which will definitely add some spice to the picture!  Mercury went into unconventional,  forward thinking Aquarius on the 12th of January and Uranus is the ruler of Aquarius so this makes the Aquarian energy twofold, helping us to think outside of the box. Uranus in Aries wants us to wake up and stand in our truth and can bring sudden flashes of insight and inspiration. We may get important messages, intuitively understand symbolic meanings and experience more synchronicities than usual. Somehow we might be able to tie things together more easily and achieve intuitive understanding of any problems we may face. Uranus and Mercury give us a fresh perspective and the ability to look at things from a more detached, objective viewpoint which could be very useful during a very subjective and emotional Full Moon! This combination could provide us with solutions to some long standing issues, making it all seem very clear. Above all, we should be able to speak our truth with sincerity and clarity and have some understanding and insight into whatever emotions may come up.

There is definitely a sense that things could come to a head during this Moon and that some childish emotional patterns could emerge! It is very hard indeed to rationalise emotions but Saturn’s influence could help us talk things through in a reasonable manner and help us make some sense of the emotions. As the ruler of the Capricorn Sun he could also help us figure out where we are going and what we might want in the long run. While Venus and Mars could stir up our passions and expose the cracks in our relationships it is always good to get things out into the open so everyone knows where they stand. Mercury and Uranus can help clear the air and come up with some solutions to anything that may come up. My sense is that while this Moon may bring some stuff up to the surface, it also gives us the tools that will help us remain reasonable and self-aware. The Moon is at home in Cancer so I hope that she will be gentle and merely help us make some much needed adjustments to our inner landscape!

Much love

Amy
