VIRGO FULL MOON Monday February 25 2013

Exact at 8.26pm GMT, 3.26 EST.

This Full Moon lights up the healing axis of Virgo and Pisces and brings great potential for healing old wounds and understanding our fears. There is a massive amount of Pisces energy around at the moment, with Mercury retrograde in Pisces amongst others, so we may very well experience some quite overwhelming emotions as the Full Moon reaches its climax. Full Moons make the tides swell, and as our bodies are predominantly made up of water it makes sense that our emotions would swell too! As things come to a head this month it is quite possible that we will experience some chaotic feelings; anxiety, feelings of hopelessness, confusion, worry are all possibilities as well as very strong feelings of love, compassion and connection to others combined with a desire to be of service to our fellow man. These are all possible manifestations of a Virgo and Pisces Full Moon! We may have become more aware than usual of the way our thoughts and emotions affect our bodies, as Virgo and Pisces highlights the connection between body (Virgo) and spirit (Pisces). This Moon is a perfect time for giving ourselves a good dose of self-care and get some rest and relaxation in before we “spring” into action after the Spring Equinox.

The energy of Virgo and Pisces are being illuminated during this Moon and we are being asked to find a balance between the energy of the two signs. As the Sun and a few of his friends are in Pisces at the moment we are being encouraged to tap into the more feminine, intuitive, receptive part of ourselves and go with the flow, finding more time for turning in, tuning in and exploring our inner landscape. Now is the time to connect to spirit; to meditate, create, relax and simply be. It is not the time to charge full steam ahead; we can do that when Aries season starts! With all of this Pisces energy we are likely to be off with the fairies somewhat and not so interested in the concerns of the real world! With Mercury also retrograde in Pisces this is the time to take a step back and look at things from a less rational, more soul-based perspective and see how everything is connected. This is dream-time; a time to reflect, recharge and heal ourselves and others with compassion and forgiveness.

The Moon is in Virgo on the other side of the axis, showing us how to take the understanding and awareness of Pisces and make it work in the real world. While Pisces represents the connection to spirit, Virgo represents our physical body and what we need to become whole. Virgo is known for striving for perfection and purity and can be quite self-critical, so while the Moon grows so could our anxieties, as the worrying side of Virgo is amplified by the emotional nature of the Moon. Being too self-critical and worrying too much can easily lead to dis-ease of the body. A good thing to remember about Virgo is that she actually just wants us to be whole; we don't have to be perfect. She is the sign of discernment, helping us decide what is right for us and what is doing us no good. Taken too far this can lead to nit-picking, but in it's highest form can help us be the best that we can be. This Virgo Full Moon is a good time to become more in tune with our bodies and more pro-active with our self-care, in the form of diet, rest, exercise etc. If we are willing to listen, our bodies can teach us a great deal about how we might be unbalanced emotionally and spiritually. So much has been changing within us recently and our bodies are bearing the brunt of what is going on internally. For instance, as Saturn in Scorpio has been bringing buried emotional trauma to the surface recently he may well have caused some physical problems to the surface too as an outer manifestation of the problem within. This Moon is very likely to bring to light the connection between body and spirit in some way.

Jupiter in Gemini is forming a T-square aspect to both the Sun and the Moon and Jupiter, being the the biggest planet, tends to expand or exaggerate the energy of the planets he comes into contact with. He is currently in mentally active Gemini so it is quite likely that our thoughts might run away with us and create mountains out of molehills during this Full Moon! As Pisces stimulates our imaginations and Virgo makes us more self-critical than usual, if you add Jupiter in Gemini to the mix then any fears or anxieties may end up being blown out of all proportion as the chattering monkeys overload our minds and nervous systems thus causing strain on our bodies. Just to add fuel to the fire, Mercury is conjunct Mars in Pisces, also causing our minds to race and jump to conclusions as Pisces makes things appear real which are in fact only illusions. It is very important to remain positive and not succumb to fear; to take a step back from our emotions and not allow ourselves to get too overwhelmed, but instead use Virgos' powers of discernment to figure out where the fears come from.

On a brighter note, mutually receptive Saturn in Scorpio and Pluto in Capricorn are forming positive aspects to both the Sun and the Moon, bringing the potential to face our fears and gain greater understanding of whatever is stopping us fulfilling our true potential. The two planets have been digging deep in recent times and dredging up some old buried emotional gunk; trauma long buried but very much holding us back from becoming who we really are. As they are positively connected to the Sun, Moon and also Chiron, the wounded healer, it could mean that we will have the opportunity confront our demons which may at other times be hard to face and to bring old wounds out into the light and heal them in the spirit of compassion and understanding. The ghosts in the closet may not seem quite so mean and scary by the time this Moon is over, and our deepest darkest fears may well lose their power once we have shone a torch on them! Chiron sitting right next to the Pisces Sun is very encouraging, as it helps us understand and heal wounds from the past and truly forgive ourselves and others. The Pisces attributes of compassion, love and understanding will help us move away from feeling angry or sorry for ourselves, or from feeling like a victim of circumstance, and make us feel more connected and at peace.

Our fears and anxieties and the toll they take on our bodies may well be the prevalent themes during this Full Moon, but ultimately we are being given an opportunity to look at the monster under the bed and realise that it is nothing but a ball of fluff. Our emotions may well blow things out of all proportion during this Moon and with Pisces involved our imaginations may well run riot, but it is up to us whether we allow fear (False Energies Appearing Real) to sit in the driving seat or let love take the reins, having faith in the ultimate benevolence of the universe. It is important to remember that we are creators of our own reality so we have the power to conjure up a happy ending. All we have to do is ask. In the meantime we must get into the spirit of Virgo / Pisces and be kind to ourselves and others in the next couple of weeks. I have heard various people talking about acts of service recently, and that really sums up the essence of a Virgo Full Moon. Nothing makes us happier in actual fact than doing something nice for someone, whether it be a friend, relative, acquaintance or a complete stranger. The path to true happiness is though service to others. What a thought!

Much love

We are getting ready for the first Mercury Retrograde of this year, on Saturday 23 February, and this time it is in the emotional water sign Pisces. This feels like a double dose of the same thing really, as the nature of Mercury retrograde and the energy of Pisces are quite similar: they both favour right brain, intuitive, non-linear thinking over left brain, rational, logical thinking. My sense is that it might be a little hard to concentrate and focus during this retrograde period, as Mercury in Pisces is known for being quite dreamy, spacey and somewhat reluctant to stay in the real world! We might also experience vague, irrational fears and anxiety, and Pisces is a very emotional sign with a tendency to make things seem real which are in fact not real at all. It seems like a good way to handle this retrograde period is to go with the flow and not try too hard to concentrate or make concrete decisions, but rather spend some time alone in meditation and see what comes up.

Mercury retrograde is an ideal time to take a step back and re-evaluate, revise, re-visit, restore, review, re-think, relax, research, renew, reflect....all the “re” words! It is not so much a time for moving forward with plans and making concrete decisions but rather is a time for looking back over our lives and contemplating what is working and what might need some adjustment. It is an ideal time to look at our lives with a different pair of eyes and a fresh perspective. We should take this opportunity to pause for a little while and reflect, because there might be an important piece of the puzzle that we have missed when we were busy trundling forward with our lives. The planet of the mind and communication in Pisces adds a certain fluidity to our thoughts and heightens our intuitive faculties, so it is important to heed our inner voices at this time. Pisces can also make things a bit confusing and create smoke screens and veils of illusion, so things may not exactly be as they seem in the next few weeks! Communication could become a bit cloudy and confusing and our minds may tend to wander off. On the other hand our thoughts and communication could take on a much more compassionate, empathetic tone, as Pisces is a very sensitive, emotional sign who thinks of others first.

As with all Mercury retrogrades I would urge everyone to maintain a sense of humour, as anything connected with communication or travel may be subject to confusion, delay and disruption at this time! As such, if phones or computers start acting up or we experience car problems or delays in travel it would be best to have faith that it must be happening for some good reason that we are not yet aware of, and then we will feel far less frustrated! Similarly, we must be aware that misunderstandings and miscommunication can easily occur during Mercury retrograde and that it is better to take it with a pinch of salt rather than getting too upset about it! Something else that can happen during retrograde periods is that people from our past may pop up unexpectedly, or we may revisit events from our past that we have long forgotten. As I said, this is a time for looking back rather than forging ahead. We can do that when Mercury turns direct.

With Pisces involved in the picture this really is a good time to focus on meditation, healing, relaxation and creativity, and we may not have much choice in the matter anyway! We are likely to feel a distinct lack of focus and find ourselves to staring off into space, so instead of feeling guilty about our lack of concentration it would be better to simply embrace it and take time to sit and be quiet and still. A wonderful Pisces activity would be having a bath with some soothing music, quietening the mind and seeing what floats up into our consciousness. Many of the personal planets are in Pisces right now, emphasising the chaotic, flowing, irrational, imaginative, sensitive, intuitive, emotional, compassionate side of our nature rather than the organised, rational, logical side. We will probably not feel quite so driven as at other times and our energy levels might fluctuate, depending on our mood. Our imaginations may well be stimulated, to the point where they could even run away with us, creating irrational fears, delusions and anxiety. We may feel more of a desire to escape reality than usual, and escapism can take many forms, from drugs and alcohol to computer games, or television, or sleep.

I feel like the best way to handle this retrograde period is to get plenty of rest and go with the flow, in true Pisces style! It is much better to float along with the current of the river rather than trying to battle against it! If we find it hard to concentrate we shouldn't force ourselves to, but should make sure that we listen to the quiet, inner voice in case it is trying to tell us something important. If our minds go off on a tangent, simply follow it and see where it leads! This is an ideal time for sensitively healing ourselves and others as our compassionate and intuitive faculties will be much heightened. We should make time to sit in silence and see what comes to us, for this is perfect time for bringing old issues up to the surface and finding resolution, making peace with our past. Our dreams may well be much more vivid than usual and have much to teach us, so keeping a dream diary could be of great benefit. This retrograde period offers us the opportunity to reflect on our lives with compassionate understanding, allowing us to truly forgive others and most importantly ourselves. Mercury retrograde doesn't have to be an annoying, frustrating time, but used wisely can be a time to take a step back and reflect, review and renew. It's all a question of perspective!

Mercury enters retrograde zone on 08 Feb 2013 (so we will have started feeling it's effects)
TURNS RETROGRADE ON 23 FEBRUARY 2013 (at its strongest just before and after 23rd)
TURNS DIRECT ON 17 MARCH 2013 (at its strongest just before and after 17th)
Leaves retrograde zone on 6 April 2013 (energy wanes)

AQUARIUS NEW MOON – Sunday 10 February 2013

Exact at 7.20 am GMT, 2.20 am EST.

This New Moon marks the beginning of the Year of the Water Snake, a year that holds the promise of spiritual renewal and gentle yet profound transformation; a good time for quiet contemplation and peaceful meditation. Ah, that sounds lovely! New Moons are not as emotional as Full Moons, as the tides as well as our emotions don’t swell up as much, but rather they are a time when we get a chance to look at our lives objectively and decide what is worth bringing forward and what should be left behind in the dark of the moon. Any seeds we plant during the New Moon eventually grow into something much bigger, though we must remember that while we often do get what we ask for it may not necessarily take the form we expect! This particular New Moon involves us stepping outside of ourselves and looking at our lives from a different perspective so that we can see things more clearly. Aquarius likes to think outside the box and is concerned with personal truth, so now is an ideal time to contemplate what that truth really is. We are being given an opportunity to rise above any petty concerns and see the bigger picture which could be quite enlightening! There is also a fateful quality to this moon as an aspect to the Nodes of the Moon gives us the opportunity to release old habits and patterns and move forward, renewed, towards the truth of who  and what we are. The theme of this Moon seems to be clarity and insight, which is truly wonderful! In order to step into our truth it helps to understand what our truth is!

This month the Sun and Moon form their cosmic union in the sign of Aquarius, the water bearer. Aquarius represents our hopes and dreams, our vision of the future, and is concerned with how we can join together with like-minded people to achieve that vision. An air sign, he rises above the emotions and sees things from a detached, objective, birds-eye perspective, allowing us greater understanding and clarity. He is the ultimate humanitarian, truly believing in the brotherhood of man, and stands for liberty, equality, freedom and truth. Aquarius thinks outside of the box and is known for flashes of inspiration which can suddenly make everything very clear. With the Sun, Moon and Venus in this sign we are being asked to step back from attachment and look at things from a broader perspective so that we can form a vision of what we truly want for ourselves.  The ruler of Aquarius is Uranus, the Great Awakener, who is currently in Aries asking us to dare to step into the truth of who we are, releasing ourselves from limitation and stagnation, honouring our own uniqueness and experiencing a greater sense of freedom than we ever have before. This New Moon asks us to take a step back, look at our lives objectively and with that perspective gain a clearer sense of where we are coming from and where we are going.

While the Sun, Moon and Venus are in detached and freedom loving air sign Aquarius, there are four planets huddled together in the emotional, intuitive, and compassionate water sign of Pisces, which creates a nice balance between the mental (air) and emotional (water) and a wonderful opportunity for healing old wounds with compassion, understanding and forgiveness. Mercury (mind and communication), Mars (motivation, drive and passion) and Chiron (healer of old wounds and insecurities) are blended together in Pisces, which is an interesting mix indeed! Pisces is very creative and imaginative, and Mercury and Mars there could bring lots of sudden passions, intuitions, hunches and creative ideas bubbling to the surface combined with Mars’s ability to act on them. Pisces can be quite evasive and confusing at times however, so there is also the possibility that we could find ourselves skirting around any issues that come up, getting lost in a fog of confusion and not knowing what to do about any of it! A challenging aspect to Jupiter could mean that our thoughts and imaginations might run a little wild and communication could go a bit overboard, as Jupiter is the planet of excess. Chiron, the wounded healer, involved in the picture could mean that we are better able to access and communicate about old wounds and insecurities, leading to understanding and forgiveness. We may have no choice in the matter anyway, as Mars and Mercury and Chiron do bring the possibility of blurting things out which may be a little hurtful  or painful but which ultimately need to be said.

In the meantime our friend Saturn in Scorpio is forming a challenging aspect to Venus, the planet of love and how we relate. This means that we might well have to plunge into the emotional depths within our relationships and dig out some rather unpleasant truths.  Saturn is the planet of limitation and lack, and when he aspects Venus he can make us very aware of where we are experiencing lack, whether that be a lack of intimacy, sex, connection, physical contact or closeness. This in turn can create a sense of loneliness, angst and depression, and could possibly cause relationships to actually break up. Saturn in Scorpio digs deep and finds the rot, testing our relationships to make sure that they are based on solid footing and helping release us from an unhealthy or destructive habits or tendencies we may have. Ultimately Saturn wants the best for us but the process can sometimes be painful! This aspect should bring to light any problems we might be having and help us gain greater understanding of ourselves and our loved ones. Combine this with the Mars, Mercury and Chiron mixture and we have the potential for some pretty profound healing this weekend. It is important to let go of any guilt or blame and approach any issues that come up with compassion and forgiveness. Also remember that that all falls under the umbrella of Aquarian detachment, objectivity and insight. Keep an eye on the bigger picture.

As I mentioned before, the Sun and Moon are forming an exact square aspect to the Lunar Nodes, so there is something very fateful about this New Moon. The Sun and Moon are sitting smack bang in the middle of the South Node (where we are coming from on a soul level/the past/old habits and patterns) and the North Node (where we are headed/our souls’ intention/the future/our potential), meaning that at this point we could be poised between where we have been and where we are going; stuck because we are unsure of which path we are supposed to take. Possibly this New Moon will sow some seeds of and bring the clarity and objective understanding needed to push us in the right direction.  There is certainly a lot of healing potential during this New Moon and, while relationships may be tested and we may be very aware of any limitation or lack, there is also the chance to release old, buried, toxic gunk which will lighten the load considerably. I certainly get the impression that we will be able to speak our minds and get to the heart of anything that may arise, provided we are direct in our communication and avoid circling around the subject! Above all this Aquarius Moon should allow us to see things from a different perspective; to think outside our usual limitations and gain a much needed sense of clarity. Aquarius could be seen to represent enlightenment, which is quite an interesting and evocative word! I think of a light bulb going on; a moment of clarity and understanding when things suddenly become clear. May this New Moon allow us to “see the light” and gain the insight and clarity needed to move forward on our journeys!

Happy Year of the Yin Water Snake!  Shed those skins!

Much love
