SCORPIO FULL MOON – Thursday 25 April 2013

Exact at 8.57pm BST, 3.57 EDT!

This is an incredibly potent Full Moon, as not only is it in the emotionally intense and powerful sign of Scorpio, but it is also a partial lunar eclipse. It is the first in a set of three eclipses in the next month which will set an energetic ball in motion that will be felt for the next six months until the next set of eclipses in November. Eclipses add to the emotional power of the Full Moon and can have a bit of a destabilising effect as they tend to give us a giant push forward in our growth and evolution which can knock us off balance slightly. They represent the end of a chapter and can be quite explosive so there is definitely more of a sense of things coming to a head than on your average Full Moon! My sense is that any emotions that we may have been denying or suppressing will come up during these few days while the eclipse brings adds the chance of these emotions literally bursting forth into our consciousness! Thoughts and feelings that we may not generally own up to may be hard to deny as we are forced to be completely honest with ourselves and our loved ones, really getting to the heart of the matter. Venus and Mars, the cosmic lovers, are a big part of this Moon so relationships are once again highlighted. There is definitely the potential for amazing release and renewal as we peel back yet another layer of dead skin and emerge more truly ourselves than we were before. Raw emotional honesty definitely seems to be the theme of this particular moon!

The Moon is full in the intense and deeply emotional sign of Scorpio while the Sun is sitting directly opposite in the earthy, stable sign of Taurus. The Taurus/Scorpio axis is very much about life cycles, beginnings and endings. Scorpio is not afraid dig beneath the surface and bring out whatever deeper, darker emotions may be lurking there so this Moon may well involve some honest to goodness soul searching as we shine a light into the shadows of our psyches. Scorpio wants more than anything to merge with another, to truly trust and be vulnerable enough to experience true intimacy. During this Full Moon the urge to bond with another on a deeper level may be very strong whether we are in a relationship or not. If we are in a relationship we may become more aware of what separates us from having a deeper connection with our partner, whether that be fear, lack of trust, old wounds that we have yet to heal, or the inability to let them see all that we are. If we are single we may experience an acute feelings of loneliness and a strong yearning to connect with someone on a deep level. This Moon is likely to bring to the surface desires that we might usually deny the existence of , forcing us to be completely honest on an emotional level, both with ourselves and others. Ultimately it should be very freeing, though it may be a bit painful to face whatever comes bubbling up to the surface!

Pluto, the ruler of Scorpio, is also very much a part of this Full Moon just to add some extra depth and intensity to the picture! Pluto will be retrograde for the next few months which will force us to look deep within and do some thorough investigation of our psyches. This feels very appropriate for the Yin year of the Water Snake, which certainly has a very introspective feel to it. Scorpio and Pluto will ask us to face our shadow side, the parts of ourselves that we may tend to deny or suppress, and shed the light on it. It is time for some emotional honesty and, like Siddhartha, to invite our shadow side to tea and to accept our deeper, darker emotions instead of pretending they don't exist. This Full Moon is a great time for purging and could mark the beginning of a profound emotional cleanse, where we pare away anything that holds us back from our truth. Some very deep, intense and powerful emotions may well come surging to the surface this week as Scorpio and Pluto shoot a laser beam which really gets to the core of any issues we may have been contending with. This Moon really will get to the heart of the matter and it is only by bringing things out into the light of our awareness that they can be healed. We might not like what we see, but we can't grow unless we have the courage to face our truth.

There are a few other heavyweight players in this Full Moon including Saturn who is sitting right next to the Moon in Scorpio. Saturn has been opposite Venus for most of the week, making us very aware of where in our lives and relationships we are lacking or limited, forcing us to have a long, hard look at ourselves and face up to some harsh realities. He is also opposite Mars, which can cause considerable frustration and could force us to blast through some emotional blocks. It makes me think of something stuck in a pipe – the blocked, pent up emotions will be forced to turn inwards somehow and eventually the pressure might be so great that they could be released quite explosively. Saturn doesn't promise immediate results and may be making things seem a little bleak, but both he and Pluto are urging us to go deeper into anything that we have been having to confront in recent times, peeling back the layers, shedding yet more skin so that we can move closer to who we really are and what we really want.

Neptune in Pisces is forming a positive aspect to the Sun, Moon, Mars and Saturn, helping us see the bigger picture and reminding us of what is really and truly important when it comes down it. Neptune's involvement will help us have compassion for ourselves and others and will greatly enhance our intuition and empathy, giving us a clearer understanding of whatever we are dealing with. Neptune should remind us to treat ourselves and others with kindness, acceptance, forgiveness and unconditional love, while helping us understand intuitively what we might not comprehend on a more rational level. Neptune reminds us that we are all from the same melting pot and that what happens to one happens to all. Remembering that can make us feel much less alone and can strengthen our feeling of connection to everyone around us. This moon could be a really good time for some healing as we will probably be more open and receptive to whatever comes up at this time. Bodywork of some description, such as a deep tissue massage, could really help bring things up to the surface, as so much emotional trauma and baggage is held in our bodies. Massages help us bring it all up so that we can release it, so this Moon really is a perfect time for that kind of work. Neptune certainly softens the effects of this Moon's emotional intensity by helping us accept whatever does come up with loving kindness and forgiveness.

There is certainly nothing light and fluffy about this Full Moon, but rather it is intensely emotional and deeply transforming. We are being asked to go deeper into our unconscious than we have have before, shedding yet more skin, purging and being more honest with ourselves than we have ever been. It is very likely that whatever comes up will be something that we have had to confront countless times before, except that this time we will get closer its core than we ever have done. Any beliefs that no longer hold true will be stripped away so that we can be more authentic within ourselves and our relationships to others. Scorpio has a deep disdain for superficiality and will cut through the layers of the lies we tell ourselves, forcing us to confront our deepest, most hidden desires at the root of who we are. Instead of fearing our shadow side we must embrace it and make it our friend, because it will have far less power that way! Eclipses tend to signify the end of a chapter and letting go of energy that no longer serves us, which means of course that a new chapter is beginning! This Moon really is a perfect time for an emotional cleanse as we release old baggage and trauma, freeing ourselves of any stuck energy and experiencing emotional renewal. By having the courage to be completely honest with ourselves we will allow deeper trust and intimacy within our relationships, or indeed let go of them if they are not a reflection of our inner truth. All this emotional honesty may leave us feeling a little raw, but ultimately it will bring us far closer to the truth of who we are than ever before.

Much love

Amy
