AQUARIUS FULL MOON - 9 August 2025
Exact at 8.54am UK time (BST)
Well, this Moon certainly does hold the potential for transformation, breakthrough, liberation and release! This is not to say that the process will be easy, and the build up to a Moon like this can bring some uncomfortable material for us to process and work through. This Moon is also occurring during the Lions Gate Portal, which peaks on 8 August and is a powerfully energetic time that has the potential to bring a lot up to the surface to be cleared. An Aquarius Full Moon can help to set us free and release us from any patterns and programming that have plagued us for so long, although in order to be free of them we must first have a heavy dose of them, which is not exactly comfortable!
Aquarius is an eccentric, original, humanitarian sign that represents freedom, revolution, detachment, and individualism, and encourages us to free ourselves from our conditioned patterns and learned behaviour. It is the part of us that questions the rules, including our own rules, and thinks outside the box. This Moon can help us to remember who we really are, the unique spark that is us before all of the other crap got piled on top of it! The Aquarius Moon is sitting directly opposite the Leo Sun, which is calling for us to shine our light, let our hair down, follow our hearts and have some fun! An Aquarius Moon can be a very creative time, when we are called to release anything that might be holding us prisoner and preventing us from shining our unique light and following the path of joy. It can also help us to remember that while we may tend to see life from our own perspective, it can be very insightful and freeing if we step out of ourselves and see things from another point of view.
There is a rare and powerful kite formation occurring during this Full Moon, which happens to include Uranus, the ruling planet of Aquarius. This Kite involves a beautiful Grand Air Trine between Mars in Libra, Uranus in Gemini and Pluto in Aquarius. What a recipe we have here for transformation, unexpected insights, profound breakthroughs and the courage to make change and liberate ourselves from anything that is holding us back or limiting us! Uranus gives us the clarity and insight needed to see what is out of balance or keeping us trapped in old patterns. We could experience sudden revelations, moments of clarity and sudden realisations that wake us up to what we need to let go of in order to be free. We may literally be able to shift the way we are looking at things, seeing them from a totally new perspective, which could be profoundly liberating.
Uranus and Mars give us the courage to do things differently and to “act out of character”. If Uranus gives us the insight and helps us to see more clearly what is out of balance and what needs to change, Mars helps us to act on these revelations! Uranus and Pluto are dancing with each other until the trine peaks on 19 September, which brings opportunities for such profound breakthroughs and liberation from old conditioning, both personal and collective, that might have been hurting or hindering us for so very long now. When we step outside of ourselves and shift our perspective and way of seeing things, we allow the old, unhealthy patterns to transform and transmute. Combine this with Mars and we have the power, motivation, courage and drive to face ourselves, to do the inner work and to confront whatever is preventing us from allowing the transformation to take place.
Mars, Uranus and Pluto can also bring up shadow material that could mean that we become angry, defensive and/or triggered. However, if we are willing to look at ourselves and dig beneath the anger to find the core wound that is being triggered, the discomfort could bring great insight, understanding, healing and liberation from these unhealed parts of us. For the last few days, Mars has been in the last couple of degrees of Virgo, which had the potential to bring about crisis and extreme sensitivity to criticism, and anything unhealed in the masculine could have come to the surface to be looked at. Now that Mars is moving into Libra, and is dancing with Uranus and Pluto, we could find that things shift and we are able to step back and see more clearly, which can lead to transformation and a greater sense of peace. Just a shift in perspective can make such a huge difference!
And then we have the other part of the kite – the kite tail – which is the Saturn/ Neptune conjunction, channelling its energy into the Grand Trine. Interestingly, Saturn and Neptune are opposing Mars, which means that we may have been having to confront the fears, delusions and illusions of our own psyches, and to wade through the confusion around what is real and what is simply our fear, wounding and old patterns. It is important to be aware of what lens we are seeing and receiving through – is it the lens of love or the lens of fear? The Saturn Neptune conjunction brings to mind something that has always stuck with me since I first read it – FEAR – False Energies Appearing Real. It seems that this Kite and Aquarius Full Moon have the capacity to help us to recognise these states we can easily fall into so that we lose our centre, getting caught up in fear and losing the ability to see clearly.
Ultimately, this Moon seems to have the potential to help
us to liberate us from these states of fear and confusion, waking us up and
helping us to step outside of ourselves and see things more objectively, which
can bring clarity and freedom. The Saturn Neptune conjunction calls for us to
look at what is real and what is illusion. It also calls for us to create
stronger boundaries with which we can better protect ourselves and keep
ourselves safe. Neptune can get caught up in the dream, the yearning and the
fantasy, while Saturn draws us back down to earth and asks us to consider what
is realistically possible. The two of them together can easily pull us into an
altered state of fear, delusion and confusion, making it hard to see clearly.
We could experience some anxiety, overwhelm and even hopelessness. However,
they can also help us to develop a realistic plan of action so that we can turn
our longings, ideals and imaginings into reality.
Hopefully the energy of this kite can help free us from samsara. This is where
Aquarius comes in, helping us to step out of the Leo subjective state, whereby
we find it hard to see beyond our own perspective, and to be more objective and
able to step back so that we can see ourselves and others more clearly. The
Kite can bring insight, new perspective, clarity, emotional honesty and
transformation, potentially transmuting our fears, triggers and wounded
patterns into self-knowledge, healing and liberation.
Interestingly, Retrograde Mercury is being positively activated by the planets
involved in this Kite formation, which can help us to understand ourselves
better and to communicate from a clear, direct, expressive, grounded,
compassionate, open, direct and kind yet honest place. This Mercury Retrograde,
which has been going on since 18 July, seems to have created a sense, for some
of us, of being in a state of limbo, an “in between place”, especially since it
is combined with Saturn, Neptune, Pluto and Chiron also being retrograde.
Indeed, it probably would have been advisable not to have important
conversations during this time, as they can easily lead to misunderstandings,
miscommunications and confusion, whereby what we say is not received exactly
the way we intended! Mercury in Leo can be a bit subjective! However, sometimes
we cannot avoid having big conversations, Mercury Retrograde or not! Mercury
goes direct on Monday 11 August, and its positive involvement with this Kite
could maybe help bring some clarity, understanding and sensible communication
at last!
The Sabian Symbol for this Full Moon, at 17° Aquarius, is an interesting one:
“A watchdog stands guard, protecting his master and his possessions”, which
Dane Rudyar describes as: “The development of the capacity to protect one-self
and to safeguard one’s individual rights under complex pressures. What seems to
be implied in this symbol, considering its position in the entire cycle, is
that under present day social conditions the individual person needs protection
against the ever-growing encroachments of society upon his theoretically
recognised right to lead a private life free from public interference. Seen in
this light the symbol stands in contrast to the preceding one depicting the
power of big business and the totalitarian implications of large-scale organisation.
At a deeper occult level of interpretation, it also reveals the need to protect
oneself against “astral” intrusions and perhaps “black magic,” the more so as
one ventures into supernormal states of consciousness. It is said that the
Adept trains certain subhuman entities (“Elementals”) to protect him. The
Christian Religion speaks of Guardian Angels in a related sense. With this
symbol we see the individual able to master natural energies which he enlists
in his service, so he may pursue his individualised work of destiny in
security. This is another aspect of the relationship of individual-to-society.
Individuals of course do also seek to rob or injure other persons, but the
state of affairs resulting from a society glorifying competition, ambition and
success at any cost is largely responsible for individual violence. The more
creative the person, the greater his or her NEED FOR PROTECTION.”
It is interesting that Dane Rudyar wrote this so long ago, and yet this feels
so current and pertinent to the here and now! This symbol seems to give a nod
to the Saturn Neptune conjunction, which seems to be calling for us to create
better boundaries with which to protect ourselves, as Saturn provides the form
and structure to hold and contain the diffuse, flowing, watery nebulousness of
Neptune. Boundaries keep us safe.
The build up to this Moon is not necessarily going to be comfortable,
especially for those of us with personal planets and angles between 0 and 3
degrees of the sign it is in. This Kite does have the potential to bring some
challenging shadow material up to the surface, but if we are able to sit with
it rather than projecting it out onto others, we have the potential for true
insight, transmutation, clarity and liberation from these old patterns and
wounding that can so easily take us over and run the show. We may find
ourselves in our patterns, but this is a gift, if only we are able to step back
somehow and watch ourselves rather than reacting from a place of fear, delusion
or confusion. Aquarius is the master of detachment and objectivity, so this
Moon invites us to shift our perspective somehow, so that we can see everything
with so much more clarity and are able to break through to the other side.
