GEMINI NEW MOON - 6 June 2024
This New Moon is a veritable Gemini party, with the Sun, Moon, Mercury,
Venus and Jupiter all in this curious, adaptable and communicative sign. There
is a light, ever changing, youthful quality to Gemini, which could help to
lighten things up a bit. Gemini is the part of us that likes to share
information and find out what’s going on in the world, so this could be quite a
busy, communicative time, when our minds are quite active and we are fully
engaged in life. Gemini likes to have its fingers in lots of pies, and those
with a lot of Gemini in their charts thrive on variety, preferring to keep
things interesting and not do things the same way twice. Gemini doesn’t let
things become boring or “same old”!
New Moons set the tone for the month ahead and can be a very powerful
time to release whatever isn’t serving us in the dark of the Moon and set
intentions just after the Moon is exact. Gemini reminds us that our thoughts
and words have considerable power to create or destroy. During this Moon it is
important to be mindful of our thought processes, watching where our minds tend
to wander and keeping an eye out for negative self-talk. It might be worth
making the time to write down what we are grateful for or to talk through our
hopes and dreams with those close to us. It could also be helpful to recognise
what is arising naturally around this Moon, as this will give a clue as to what
our true hopes, wishes and intentions are, rather than forcing it or trying to
“figure it out”.
On the one hand we have Venus, the planet of love and beauty sitting in
the very same degree as the Sun and Moon, while on the other hand we have
karmic, cautious Saturn exerting some influence through a challenging square to
the Sun, Moon and Venus. Venus combined with the Sun and Moon in Gemini can
help us to feel affectionate, loving and caring, so this Moon could bring out
our more sociable side! Venus has been travelling with the Sun since going into
Gemini on 24 May, and they will continue their journey together until the
middle of June. However, the conjunction will be strongest between 2 and 5
June. Venus in Gemini is light and airy, a bit flirty and very playful. This
could be a good time for meeting people and finding out what makes them tick.
It is also a helpful time for communicating with love.
Saturn is definitely in on the act, however, with a challenging square
to the Sun, Moon and Venus. Saturn squaring Sun, which will be exact on 9 June,
can make things feel a bit heavy, with the potential for some kind of reality
check. With Saturn in Pisces we could become aware of a contrast between how we
would like things to be, in an ideal world, and how things really are. The Sun
wants to shine its light, radiating warmth and joy, while Saturn is a more
cautious, controlling and even fearful influence that can put obstacles in the
way and force us to be patient.
Those of us with personal planets or angles around 19° of a sign,
especially the mutable signs Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces, could
experience the heavy dose of Saturnian reality the most acutely. However,
ultimately Saturn can help us to grow up and take full responsibility for
ourselves. As a good friend of mine said recently, Saturn is like medicine – it
may not taste great, but ultimately it is good for us! Sometimes we must simply
be patient and keep an eye out for the lessons it is bringing.
Saturn square Venus, exact on 8 June, could bring a reality check in the
realm of love, relationships and finances. We could also find that our sense of
self-worth is somehow tested, especially those of us with planets and angles
around 19°. It is helpful to look at our relationships in a clear and realistic
manner, without the rose-tinted spectacles on, although our relationships and
finances could definitely be tested. Saturn can bring up fear of rejection, or
a feeling of not being good enough or somehow cut off from others. However, it
can also force us to grow up and face whatever is going on rather than turning
the other cheek or burying our heads in the sand and avoiding any issues that
we might be facing in our relationships or financial situation.
In other news, we have powerful Pluto forming a supportive, harmonious
trine with expansive Jupiter, exact on 3 June but still very strong during this
New Moon. This combo can help us to evolve, expand and grow, broadening
our vision of what is possible and helping us to take an empowered leap of
faith. Mercury joins in on the act on 4 June as it joins Jupiter in Gemini and
also trines Pluto. This could lead to some powerful, deep and transforming
thoughts, contemplations and conversations, whereby we are somehow able to see
the bigger picture and look forward with a more expansive and hopeful vision.
We could experience some pieces of the puzzle somehow falling into place, so
that things somehow make more sense as we move forward.
Those of us with personal planets or angles around 1 or 2° of a sign
will feel the benefit of Pluto and Jupiter most strongly, especially the air
signs of Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. However, those of us with planets and
angles around 1° of the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius will
be feeling the transforming, empowering and psychologically insightful energy
of Pluto at the moment. Pluto has the potential to strip away anything that
isn’t serving us so that something more aligned with our true purpose can take
its place. This is the planet that forces us to evolve, which isn’t always
pretty, especially if we have been resisting what we know we need in order to
grow.
The Sabian symbol for this Moon, at 17° Gemini, is interesting,
especially in the light of the Pluto Mercury trine: “The head of a robust youth
changes into that of a mature thinker” which Dane Rudyar describes as “The
transformation of physical vitality into the power to build concepts and
intellectual formulations through which knowledge can be transferred. We have
here a picture of a process of quiet and steady metamorphosis of biological
energy into mind-power, which can be seen symbolically as the “man” way. The
symbolism may seem old-fashioned today, but the two contrasting approaches to
communication of new experiences remain evident, however one wishes to
symbolise them. What we see pictured is the transformation of emotions into
mind, of instincts into thoughts – a process of MENTAL METAMORPHOSIS.”
This Moon certainly does seem to be mentally active, with the potential
for using the power of the mind to propel us forward. Not only are the Sun,
Moon and Venus in curious, communicative Gemini, but Mercury, the ruler of this
Moon also in Gemini, its own sign. There is the potential for lots of chit
chat, sharing thoughts and ideas, journalling, learning new things and
interacting with our immediate environment such as neighbours and the community
we live in. This Moon really is as Gemini as it gets! Gemini season can be
quite frenetic, bringing a lot of mental activity, so it is important to take
time out to quiet the mind and reflect upon all that we are taking in and
processing. That is where the answers will come.
