VIRGO NEW MOON - 15 September 2023

Exact at 2.29am UK time (BST)

This feels like a very special New Moon that has the potential to bring about positive change and transformation. As with all New Moons, we have the chance to leave whatever isn’t serving us behind in the dark of the Moon and to focus on what we want to bring in, for our highest good. It is a time of endings and beginnings when we get to start fresh; a monthly clean slate, so to speak. This Moon is in Virgo, a sign that brings the potential for a cleansing and a purification of sorts. Virgo season has a “back to school” feeling to it; a time when we have an opportunity to start healthy routines and change our habits and patterns. As such, this Moon could be seen as a reset button, whereby we decide what simply isn’t good for us anymore and allow it to be washed away so that we can focus on what feels good and positive and healthy.

Virgo is interested in self-improvement. It is the part of us that can easily beat ourselves up about our flaws, inadequacies and shortcomings and seeks to do something about it. Sometimes crises come about that help us to confront what needs to change and what simply isn’t working anymore. A health crisis, for instance, has the potential to be a gateway to greater awareness and understanding, and can even bring about a spiritual awakening. If we are open and willing, it can show us what is out of alignment, emotionally, spiritually, physically and mentally, giving us a chance to work on that part of ourselves. Virgo can help us take a holistic view, rather than merely focusing on the symptoms. It can also remind us that a seeming crisis can actually be the most amazing gift, if we are open to it.

Mercury, the ruler of this New Moon, is also in Virgo and is very strong indeed as it is stationary, getting ready to turn direct after having been retrograde for 3 weeks. This Moon certainly feels like a good opportunity to practice the art of discernment and separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak. While Mercury has been retrograde, we have had the chance to look back and contemplate the past, recognising where we might have gone wrong and “could do better” next time. Sometimes looking back to past relationships and situations can bring the gift of clarity and understanding and can also bring great healing. This Moon, with all its Virgo energy, can help us to recognise what is good for us and what needs to go. Now Mercury is about to turn direct, on a New Moon no less, we have a chance to push forward, armed with the lessons we have learned, with any plans and ideas, setting some energetic balls in motion that could blossom and grow in the coming weeks.

We have a lot of positive planetary support for this New Moon, with a supportive and harmonious earth trine involving the Sun and Moon, Uranus and Pluto. Uranus is the biggest player, however, as it is forming an almost exact trine with the Sun and Moon, bringing the potential for a much-needed breath of fresh air and positive change. Uranus can bring curve balls, epiphanies and surprises and is the planet that reminds us that everything can change in the blink of an eye. Uranus can help us to take a step back and see things from a different perspective, bringing greater awareness, insight, realisations and the capacity to find solutions. Sometimes we need a little jolt to set us back on track, or a shift in perspective to help us to see things more clearly.

Those of us with personal planets or angles around 22° of a sign will be feeling the energy of Uranus most acutely. In the earth signs and water signs it could feel enlivening, exciting and liberating, whereas the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius could find it a bit more unsettling, as if change is somehow forced rather than chosen. No matter what the sign, Uranus can help us to make change and liberate us from old patterns, conditioning and habits so that we can be truer to who we really are rather than who we have been told we “should” be.

In addition to the Grand Trine, there is a Kite pattern being formed in the heavens during this Moon, which makes this feel like a special lunation. I won’t go into too much detail about the kite, as I would be here all day, but will just try to sum up the energy and potential. The Virgo Sun and Moon are the focal point of the Kite, with Uranus, the planet of awakening, freedom and change, Pluto, the planet of soul growth, power and transformation and Neptune, the planet of unity, flow, spiritual connection, compassion and acceptance all interacting beautifully with each other and sending the energy towards this Virgo New Moon. It feels quite magical, to be honest. There is much potential for some healthy shifts, positive changes, greater awareness and soul growth, especially if we are able to open ourselves to the natural flow of the universe, allowing change to happen rather than forcing it.

There is also a supportive trine aspect between Chiron, the Wounded Healer and Venus, the planet of love and relationship, that will be building up to being exact on the Equinox on 23 September. Venus is now direct, having been retrograde from 22 July until 3 September. Our relationships were very much up for review during that time, and some did not survive, some got stronger and some simply changed form. This trine between Chiron and Venus brings the potential for some profound healing to occur within our relationships, or for us to meet or run into someone who has a helpful, healing effect on us. We could find that we are more able to show our vulnerability than at other times and also to find acceptance and compassion for the insecurities, vulnerabilities and flawed humanity of others.

Those of us with personal planets or angles around 18° of the Fire signs of Aries, Leo and Sagittarius will benefit most from this healing energy, although the air signs will also find it beneficial. Simply to show and express love and appreciation can have such a healing effect upon the person receiving it. If there are any bridges that need mending in our relationships, we have an ideal opportunity in the coming week or so.

All in all, this feels like a very well supported Moon, helping us to make whatever changes feel necessary and wholesome. The Virgo part of us can sometimes over-think, over-analyse and worry, contemplating what needs to change yet feeling so overwhelmed by what needs to be done that it can lead to paralysis and inaction. This is the kind of Moon that can help us to see what needs to be done to improve our situation and can also bring the right set of circumstances and impetus to actually do something about it. We have the potential for profound shifts to occur if we are willing and able to ride the waves rather than resisting them. If we have felt stuck in recent times, in some kind of a holding pattern, then this is the kind of Moon that can help us to shift out of it and embrace any opportunities for change and growth that come our making absolutely sure that it is for our highest good.

Much Love

Amy
