ARIES FULL MOON - 5 October 2017

Exact at 7.40pm BST, 2.40pm EDT.

While the last couple of Moons have taken us through a time of transition, this one heralds a call to take courageous action! This Full Moon highlights the relationship axis of Aries and Libra, and with Pluto, the planet of soul, power and transformation, squaring the axis it is quite likely that the way we approach our relationships will be going through some kind of metamorphosis. It is a very interesting Moon because Venus and Mars, the rulers of the Libra Sun and Aries Moon, are entwined in exactly the same degree of Virgo! The cosmic lovers are also being helped out by transformational Pluto and challenged by realistic Saturn. This gives a sense that we will be prompted to take a long hard look at our relationship patterns and contemplate what might need to change. Initially we may experience some kind of crisis, as is the Virgo way, but it is merely growing pains as we transition from one way of relating to a healthier way that is more aligned with our core truth. Virgo is very self-critical and creates a feeling of needing to do better as well as analysing things to death!  She also asks that we humble ourselves and find how we can be of service, so we could use this Moon to contemplate where we might need more humility and how we can better serve our relationships, whether friendship, familial or intimate.

The Moon is full in the independent, assertive and courageous sign of Aries, sitting directly opposite the Sun in peaceful, harmonious and diplomatic Libra. The key to the Full Moon is to find the balance between the energy of the two signs rather than veering too far in one direction. Aries is all about “Me”, while Libra is all about “Us”, or “Other”. Aries is the part of us that needs the independence and freedom to have whatever experiences are necessary to discover who we are, what we are here for and where we are going. It is a very instinctual sign that is very spontaneous, enthusiastic and impulsive. Obviously it is easier to act on our own individual impulses when we are not in relationship, and this is where the tension between the two signs shows itself. There is a fine line between honouring our own needs and being “selfish”, self-centred or self-serving. In the same token there is a fine line between honouring the needs of the other and giving our power away or sacrificing our own needs. They key is to recognise when compromise is needed for the sake of the relationship itself, which of course is its own entity and needs nurturing, and when we need to stick up for our own needs and rights. It’s a delicate balance!

Aries gives us the inner courage and strength to move into unknown territory and break away from past patterns of behaviour that may be inhibiting our growth. He asks that we move forward and forge a new way of being, rather than recreating the past and recycling old, outworn ways of relating. With Mars sitting right next to Venus in Virgo, it seems that we could become acutely aware of the relationship patterns that are holding us back or where we might be experiencing lack in our various relationships. The way we relate as adults can be traced directly back to what we experienced in the womb and early childhood, and the patterns and habits we formed that long ago can be very difficult to recognise, let alone break! Something could come up within our relationships that leads to self-questioning, which then leads to the need to find some kind of creative solution. The Aries and Libra/Mars and Venus quandary revolves around the Aries fear of entrapment or loss of freedom versus our natural desire to be in relationship with others. How do we honour our own path and not lose our personal sense of purpose and destiny while also taking into account the needs, purpose and destiny of our partner and the relationship itself?

Pluto is challenging both the Sun and Moon, which could really help us to get to the bottom of whatever might need to change. Pluto forces us to confront ourselves and to be brutally honest about our desires and motivations. He urges us to face our shadows and recognise what old patterns and compulsions may be tripping us up time and time again. This is the planet of the soul and transformation, and he is prone to giving us a cosmic kick up the bum if we are stuck in old habits or situations that are preventing growth. We could experience some very intense emotions that come from the deep, dark, depths of our psyche. If we are brave enough to actually express what we are feeling we could make ourselves feel quite vulnerable and exposed. However, with Pluto forming a harmonious aspect to Mars and Venus, this honesty has the potential to really help and transform our relationships, bringing us closer to our loved ones and creating greater intimacy. Not to mention that being brave enough to truly recognise and confront whatever it is that has been tripping us up all of our lives has the potential to completely transform our lives and relationships. We have the chance to make the unconscious conscious, and this is powerful indeed!

The Saturn Chiron Square is also challenging the Venus Mars conjunction in Virgo, and this too is prompting us to face up whatever is holding us back from our full potential. We are being asked to break some age-old patterns that are keeping us imprisoned and are quite simply not helping our lives and relationships one little bit! This could be a painful process, especially if we resist it, so it is probably better to dive straight in with the willingness to face whatever we must in order to grow. We all have that “beast” that has been following us around our whole life, holding us back from realising our full potential in both our lives and relationships. We are being offered a gift; the possibility of really seeing our own personal beast for what it is and putting it in its proper place so that it no longer rules us. Just being consciously aware of this pattern or compulsion will make it lose its power. This is the last of three squares between Saturn and Chiron, and there is a feeling of “enough is enough”. It is time to face it once and for all so that we can move forward to the next level.  The Square will be exact on 4 November, but it is our relationships that will be the catalysts for growth during this Full Moon. As they so often are!

The Sabian symbol for the Sun/Moon midpoint, at 13° Capricorn, is: “A fire worshiper meditates on the ultimate realities of existence”, which Dane Rudyar describes as “The subjective quest for ultimates beyond the interplay of life and death processes. In times when collective, perhaps total death could be in store for mankind, the process of subjective meditation is fascinating an ever-greater number of people. This symbol brings us to a stage beyond life itself. Are we ready to take this step which the masters of yoga claim to have taken: to experience death and return to the same body? Are we ready to demonstrate man’s WILL TO TRANSCENDENCE.” What will we each see when we stare into the flames? This feels like a dare, and Aries is up to the challenge! It’s time to be brave and to surrender; to throw ourselves in the deep end. It is time to face our greatest fear and step beyond it.

Much Love

Amy
