SAGITTARIUS FULL MOON - 9 June 2017
Exact at 2.09pm BST,
9.09am EDT
There is a lot going on during this Full Moon and we could
definitely feel things coming to a head in the days leading up to it. Whatever
has been gestating in the background of our consciousness will now come into
full bloom under the light of the Moon. All that was hidden will now be seen
and anything that may have been bothering us will find full expression. It is
Gemini season and so we could find ourselves bombarded with a plethora of
information, propaganda, thoughts, ideas and opinions, especially as Mercury
has now moved out of Taurus and is in Gemini, his own sign. This could speed up
the pace of our lives considerably, giving us a lot to think about and process.
There will likely be a lot of chatter, both in our personal lives and in the
media and social media. This is where Sagittarius comes in, as he helps us to
make sense of all of the facts and information we receive and come to a more
holistic understanding of it all. In short, he helps us see the bigger picture.
While Gemini gathers the information and spreads it around, Sagittarius helps
us to intuitively grasp what the rational mind cannot fully comprehend. With
Sagittarius we go deeper. Intuition means that we somehow know what we know
without quite knowing how we know it. We may not be able to prove it, per se,
but we just know; we feel it in our gut.
Sagittarius is the seeker; the part of us that wants to
understand our connection to the universe and the truth of existence. His is
the realm of natural law, philosophy, cosmology, religion and metaphysics. As
such, truth and honesty are a big part of the Sagittarius experience and will
very likely feature in this Full Moon. The shadow side of honesty, of course,
is lies, dishonesty and deception, and so we might experience people
embellishing or exaggerating the truth due to a feeling of inadequacy or a need
to somehow prove themselves. Or they may downright lie! Sometimes people appear
to be sincere, honest and truthful, but this is only because they have somehow
convinced themselves that what they are saying is the truth. They completely
believe their own lies. Sagittarius rules our belief system, and so this Moon
could bring people’s beliefs out into the open in no uncertain terms! We may
try to convince or convert people to our beliefs, or have others do the same to
us. People who are secure in what they believe are not so defensive or rigid
and don’t have such a need to convince others or insist that other take on the
same beliefs. This is where Gemini comes in, as it makes us aware that there
are many differing viewpoints and reminds us that truth is relative and that
there are a great variety of paths that lead to the same goal.
Interestingly enough, Saturn and Neptune both play a part in
this Full Moon, so we may literally find ourselves having to separate what is
real (Saturn) from what is illusion (Neptune). The truth could be somewhat
elusive, but we just have to look within and we will find it. It is quite
possible that we will experience such a heavy dose of Saturn reality that we
feel the urge to bury our heads in the sand, escaping into a Neptunian blissful
fantasy land. Saturn represents control, authority, government, discipline and
responsibility, while Neptune represents oneness, connection to spirit,
unconditional love and unity. Saturn is fear, separation, structure and
boundaries, while Neptune dissolves boundaries and reminds us that we all come
from the same melting pot. Neptune helps us look past what seemingly separates
us and connect with one another’s true spirit. It can also create smoke screens
which make it very hard to know what’s real. There is an idealistic side to
Neptune which makes the truth hard to bear, so it’s easier to just keep the
rose tinted spectacles on!
It is quite possible that we will feel
a bit confused and disoriented during this Moon, with a strong desire to “numb
out” or run away. We may feel a bit fearful as we are forced to face reality,
and so we might desperately cling to some form of control. As a good friend
reminded me the other day, it is only when we feel unsafe that we feel the need
to be in control. When we feel safe we are more able to simply surrender to the
flow of life, letting go of our grip on the reins. Both Saturn and Neptune are
forming hard aspects to this Moon, so Saturnian fear, anxiety, depression and
control and Neptunian disillusionment, deception, scapegoating and escapism are
all possibilities. We may feel very sensitive and vulnerable indeed and not
quite know what to believe. It is important not to wallow in martyrdom or
victimhood, however. It is far better to take a leaf out of Sagittarius’s book
and keep an eye on the big picture. Sagittarius has a great sense of humour and
is so good at laughing at the absurdity of life; he knows all too well that
everything happens for a reason and always has something valuable to teach us.
It’s all just one big adventure to him, like a game of snakes and ladders!
Pluto in Capricorn is forming a nagging aspect to the Sun in
Gemini during this Moon, and is the strongest aspect, so it will have the most
impact on us, both personally and collectively. Pluto is the planet of power,
the soul, transformation and metamorphosis; in Capricorn he is seeking to purge
and expose the rot of society, governmental structures or any form of authority
and control. Pluto in Capricorn represents the power structures and gradually,
from 2008 until 2023, these structures will be seen for what they are, archaic,
outdated, corrupt and no longer serving us, and they will gradually be eroded
or destroyed in order for something better and more appropriate to take their
place. The inconjunct aspect between Pluto and the Sun could signify some kind
of crisis, whereby we become all too aware of what needs to change, both
personally and collectively. Through this crisis the “rot” could become so
glaringly obvious that we are given no choice but to make changes. Pluto is the
cosmic kick up the bum that shows us what isn’t working in our lives and where
we are stagnant or stuck, then pokes and prods us towards change,
transformation and growth. On a personal level we are purging old conditioning
and aligning our work in the world with our true soul’s purpose. We are working
towards the Capricorn traits of authenticity and integrity. Collectively the
old power structures are reaching crisis point, as Pluto makes it all too
obvious how the patriarchy (Capricorn) is inherently flawed and lacking
integrity.
The Sabian symbol for the Moon, at 19° Sagittarius, is
“Pelicans menaced by the behaviour and refuse of men seek safer areas for
bringing up their young” which Rudyar describes as “The need for people
concerned with the future to discover a new way of living and more wholesome
surroundings…..the race’s survival has become a matter of extreme
importance……Going to distant planets is hardly the answer. A generation may have
to sacrifice itself for the sake of its descendants.” The Sabian symbol for the
midpoint between the Sun and Moon is “A swimming race” which Rudyar describes
as “The stimulation that comes from a group effort toward a spiritual goal….the
personal ego-centred ambition to succeed and be “first” is indeed a sign of
expectable spiritual failure….What is needed is emulation, not competition”
Uranus’s symbol, at 28° Aries, is “A large audience
confronts the performer who disappointed its expectations” and Rudyar says “the
performer is made fully aware of having promised more than he was able to
deliver. The issue is how to handle this situation…..The individual is not
alone concerned, for in a sense mankind as a whole will be affected”. Mercury,
at 5°Gemini, is the same as the Gemini New Moon: “ A revolutionary magazine
asking for action.” “The explosive tendency of repressed feelings and root
emotions”. As I said in the Gemini New moon post “We seem to be being asked to
step up and go against the grain, putting our thoughts into action and doing
something that is radically different because there is such a strong need for
things to change.” It’s interesting that the same symbol is showing up for this
Moon.
These are evocative Sabian symbols, and I am intrigued to
see what transpires in the next couple of weeks! The Full Moon peaks just after
the General Election in England, so the swimming race makes perfect sense here!
We are definitely being bombarded with opinions, ideologies, beliefs and
propaganda right now, not to mention having to separate fact from fiction! In
the meantime I have noticed a few of my American friends leaving social media
sites recently because they are so disgusted, disillusioned, over-saturated and
fed up with what is coming through on their news feed! America, and indeed the
world, is definitely a disappointed audience right now. Something has to give.
We are living in a corrupted world which is coming to crisis point and, like
the pelicans, we are being asked to find new ways of living to counteract the
damage that has been done in the last century to this planet of ours.
Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius, is stationary during this
Moon, which means that his energy is particularly strong. Jupiter reminds us to
have faith and to trust that all is unfolding exactly as it is supposed to.
Jupiter is in Libra, the sign of balance and opposing extremes, and there is no
doubt whatsoever that the scales are tipping over at the moment! Sometimes they
have to tip over for balance to be restored. Jupiter in Libra reminds us that
there are always two sides to any situation and the light always balances out
the darkness. For instance, so often when crisis hits and things seem really
bad, people come together and commit astounding acts of unconditional love and
kindness that remind us how beautiful and giving human beings can be. Jupiter
reminds us to keep the faith in the inherent goodness of humankind and our
capacity to come together in times of need. Jupiter in Libra believes in the
Venusian qualities of peace, love, harmony, equality, balance, justice,
fairness, compromise, cooperation and teaming up with others. During this Moon
he encourages us to reach out to each other and keep the faith that in the end,
one way or another, justice shall prevail. Sagittarius knows that there is
always a lesson to be learned, and if we don’t slide down the odd snake or two
we would never grow. And while it may be hard not to succumb to fear, we must
always choose love.
Much Love
Amy
