SCORPIO FULL MOON - 10 May 2017
Exact at 10.42pm BST, 5.42pm

This Full Moon could draw some strong emotions from the
depths of our subconscious, as Scorpio is an emotionally intense sign that
forces us to face the parts of ourselves we might not want to admit to! So
often we project these unconscious, un-owned parts of ourselves onto other
people, and this Moon could well make the unconscious more conscious. Full
Moons are a time in the month when things come to a head emotionally, and
anything that might have been simmering away below the surface comes rising up,
demanding release. The Full Moon is also a time of fruition, when the energetic
ball that was set in motion around the time of the New Moon reaches some kind
of culmination and our intentions begin to bear fruit. The Taurus New Moon held
the potential for recognising what we need to feel safe and secure and
contemplating how we can work on our self-worth and empowerment. We also had
the chance to recognise where we might be in need of change. The intentions we
set then had the potential to really take root and manifest as reality,
although we might have to be a bit patient. This Moon is a continuation of that
process and could involve us purging or letting go of something in order to
move forward.
The Sun is in down to earth, patient, sensual Taurus sitting
directly opposite soulful, powerful, intensely emotional Scorpio and the key to
the Full Moon is to find balance between the energy of the two signs. Taurus has
a tendency to put her roots down and dig her heels in so deep that she finds it
hard to make change, which can lead to getting stuck in a rut and stagnation.
She can hold herself back from necessary growth because she is so concerned
about staying safe and secure, or simply surviving, that she literally can’t
see other possibilities. Scorpio, on the other hand, can quite easily pull the
rug of security from under our feet in order to help us grow on a deep, soul
level. We all want, and need, to grow at certain times during our lives, but we
also fear the unknown and any threat to our emotional security. It’s human nature to resist change,
unfortunately! When I think of Scorpio I think of the butterfly emerging from
the cocoon or the phoenix rising from the ashes, as sometimes we need to
experience a symbolic “death” of some kind in order for something better to be
born in its place. Scorpio can take us to the depths of hell and back in order
to teach us the necessary lessons and realign us with our true path. Hopefully
that won’t be necessary during this Moon, however, as the aspects are generally
quite gentle!
Scorpio is the sign that asks “Why?” and is the part of
ourselves that seeks to understand our hidden motivations and desires, and also
the psychological make-up of those close to us. She is quite psychic and is not
afraid to dive into the shadows and face whatever she finds there, even if it’s
not pretty. This Moon could involve us doing some shadow diving and sharing our
deepest fears and more vulnerable parts with those close to us. This is what
creates true intimacy, which is one of Scorpio’s specialities. We may find ourselves having to acknowledge
that certain qualities and traits that we find abhorrent or upsetting in other people are in fact a
part of us too. That’s why they bother us so much! So often people in our
immediate environment mirror back the shadow parts that we are completely unaware
of within ourselves, and during this Moon the onus is on us to be completely
honest with ourselves and willing to own these shadows instead of blaming
others for them.
While Taurus is that
part of ourselves that is quite self-sufficient and self-reliant, Scorpio
favours collaboration and asks us to surrender our sense of being a separate,
independent being and merge with another (or others) to create something much
greater than the sum of its parts. The danger here is that sometimes people become
so merged with others that they lose all sense of themselves. Somewhere in the
middle of Taurus and Scorpio is the answer; to allow ourselves to join forces
with others, but in a self -reliant manner so that we are not relying on them
to meet all of our needs.
Pluto, the ruler of Scorpio, is also forming a harmonious
aspect to the Sun and Moon, which compounds the soulful, transformative energy
of this Full Moon. Pluto calls for us to be emotionally honest and trust others
enough to allow them to see our deeper, darker side. It also helps us to
empower ourselves and step outside of any limiting situations, transforming our
lives and relationships in a positive way. We won’t be getting a giant cosmic
kick up the bum here, but rather the onus will be on us to step up to the plate.
However, we will be supported if we are
brave enough to do so. Pluto is sitting right next to Juno in Capricorn and Juno
is stationary at the moment so her energy is particularly strong. Juno is the
goddess of committed, long term relationships and marriage, and in Capricorn
she is even more committed, although it could also feel a bit heavy and
restricting. Pluto and Juno together can signify experiences within our
relationships that cause changes and transformation deep within the depths of
our soul. Deep, profound bonding and emotional honesty are possible, but this
could also involve us experiencing the not so pretty parts of ourselves such as
rage, jealousy, obsession, domination, power plays or manipulation. This aspect
will certainly bring greater emotional intensity to our relationships and will
also demand a deeper commitment, with absolute integrity and authenticity.
The other ruler of Scorpio is Mars, who is in communicative Gemini
right now, while Mercury, the ruler of Gemini, is in Aries, which is ruled by
Mars! This means that they are in mutual reception, so their energy is very
strong. This calls for us to be very honest, candid and speak our minds without
holding back. Indeed, with Mercury sitting right next to Uranus in Aries, we
could find ourselves blurting out some truths that shock ourselves and others! We
may have a strong desire to understand ourselves and others and the urge to
communicate what we discover. It is quite possible that we will gain sudden
insights and solutions to old problems, as Uranus can bring epiphanies and
thoughts that come like bolts from the blue! Venus is also in Aries at the
moment, so we have a lot of forthright, assertive, honest and brave energy for
this Moon. This could help us to bare our souls, speak our truth and assert our
needs, without fear or reservation. Aries is known for speaking first and
thinking later, so we could find ourselves saying things that we can’t take
back. However, as the Scorpio Moon wants to get to the heart of the matter
anyway, this can only be a good thing! Better out than in!
Saturn and Uranus are forming a harmonious trine aspect to
one another and the energy is building now, and will be exact on 19th
May. Saturn and Uranus are two very different characters, as Saturn represents
structure, authority, society and dictates “the rules”, while Uranus seeks to
release us from conformity and rebels against any rules or “shoulds and
shouldn’ts”. Uranus in Aries urges us to dare to be who we really are, rather
than what our parents or society have conditioned us to be. Put the two
together and we could find that we are able to question the powers that be
without rocking the boat too much and also make our visions for the future
(Uranus) more concrete and real (Saturn). This trine could help us to recognise
where we have just been towing the line and how we can go about freeing
ourselves from any restrictions to our freedom and the right to be ourselves.
This is a good time to challenge authority, whether it be parents, teachers, bosses
or the government, and stand up for our rights and freedom.
The Sabian symbol for this Moon, at 21° Scorpio, is
interesting and seems to tie in nicely with the energy of the Saturn Uranus trine:
“Obeying his conscience, a soldier resists orders”. This symbol speak for
itself really, but Dane Rudyar speaks of “a readiness to face the results of a
refusal to follow the authoritarian pattern of an aggressive society”. While
culture and society may be a powerful, dominating force, it does not mean that
we have to go along with it! We have the right to define and assert our own values
and be our own person, so that we maintain “inner freedom” even if we still
have to play by the rules somewhat. It seems that this Moon is calling for us
to be true to ourselves and be utterly authentic, acting with the utmost
integrity. Scorpio and Pluto encourage us to stand in our power, even if it
means allowing ourselves to be a bit vulnerable and let our darker, un-owned
parts reveal themselves instead of hiding in the shadows and running the show
on an unconscious level! It is time for the butterfly to break out of the
cocoon and be seen in all its glory! The cocoon may be safe, cosy and
comfortable, but it is also extremely limiting compared to the freedom we will
feel when we actually fly!
Much love
Amy
