LIBRA NEW MOON - 10 October 2026

Exact at 4.50pm UK time (BST)

This New Moon brings our relationships into focus, with the Libran quest for balance, harmony, fairness and equal give and take. There is a considerable amount of depth to this particular Libra New Moon because Venus, Libra’s ruling planet, is retrograde in Scorpio and under considerable pressure from Mars, Uranus and Pluto. It feels as though we are being called to step back and do some deep diving beneath the surface of our relationships to find out what is really going on. We may need to confront some uncomfortable truths, facing our shadows and asking ourselves how we are showing up and what we really, truly want and need from those closest to us. There is nothing superficial about this Moon! Libra may like to keep the peace, but Venus in Scorpio forces us to be very honest with ourselves, which could involve looking at some rather uncomfortable material!

New Moons are a very potent time of the month, when we plant seeds for the month ahead, and Libra asks us what we need to leave behind in the dark of the Moon in order to achieve the Libran ideal of peace, harmony and balance. What in our lives and relationships is out of balance? Do our relationships feel healthy, and if not, what needs to change in order to make them so? Retrograde Venus could call for us to go back over old ground, revisiting the past and bringing to light anything that may be unresolved, festering or toxic, and sabotaging the health of the relationship. Retrograde Venus calls for us to re-evaluate, reconsider, reconcile and review our relationships, and Scorpio isn’t afraid to look at the not so pretty bits, as it holds up the mirror for us to see ourselves more clearly, warts and all. Scorpio demands emotional honesty, even if it is acutely exposing and uncomfortable.

Venus is forming an exact square with Mars in Leo, bringing more tension to our relationships, although it could be very useful as it gets things out into the open. This combination calls for us to be very clear about what we want and need, and to have the courage to express our desires. This is a very passionate combination which could bring any issues or hidden resentments out into the open, so it is important to recognise when our ego is being activated and to do our best to not let pride get in the way. Mars in Leo could make it hard for us to back down, and it could be difficult to receive the honest, penetrating feedback from Scorpio Venus without it putting our backs up and making us feel triggered or defensive.

Those of us with personal planets or angles around 7° of a sign will feel the energy of Mars most acutely, especially the fixed signs Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. Both Leo and Scorpio both have strong wills and a stubborn streak, so it is important to keep an eye on our egos and to be willing to look at ourselves honestly and not let pride get in the way, so that we can admit when we are wrong. The shadow side of Leo is that part of us that wants to be admired and validated and so we may struggle with any feedback that paints us in a not so pretty light! Mars in Leo can, however, give us the courage to express ourselves with an open heart, and to confront whatever comes bubbling  up from the shadows. This is a passionate and potentially creative combination that certainly could help bring the darkness out into the light, although it may not exactly be an easy process!

Uranus is forming a niggling quincunx aspect to Venus, exact 16 October and building in energy during this Moon. This is the second pass, as these two met for the first time on 20 September, so there could be some resonance. We could experience some kind of curveball or unexpected surprise in the realm of our relationships, and may gain considerable insight and clarity into hidden dynamics and complexes that are playing out in our relationships. Uranus helps us to pause and step back so that we can see more clearly what is actually going on. Uranus is also in Gemini, helping us to rewrite and reframe the old stories we have told ourselves and communicate in a more detached, objective manner about some deep and difficult subject matter. We may become more aware of what needs to shift in our relationships to bring greater intimacy, trust and depth.

Pluto is also square Venus in Scorpio, exact 20 October but starting to build during this Moon. This is also the second pass, as the first time was 15 September. Pluto could really force us to recognise some of our more complex or toxic patterns and ways of relating that simply don’t serve us. It can unearth our deepest fears, such as fear of being seen, fear of rejection, fear of abandonment, fear of confrontation, fear of losing control, fear of loss – there are many fears that can come up when we are in a deeper, more intimate relationship with others. Pluto and retrograde Venus can help us to look under the proverbial carpet and bring out whatever has been festering there, such as hidden resentments, power dynamics, fears and subconscious patterns that may have been subtly undermining our relationships. This can be deeply transformative, although again, quite exposing and uncomfortable.

Pluto in Aquarius and Uranus in Gemini are also working up to the second of five exact trines occurring between 2026 and 2028, the first one being 18 July this year, so this is the next phase of what began then. This one will peak on 29 November, but is definitely building now and is being very much activated by Venus during this Moon. This combination certainly brings the subject of the rapidly accelerating use of AI to the fore, as both Aquarius and Uranus relate to technology and people are increasingly using AI as a companion, guide, mentor and even counsellor. However, Pluto and Uranus are also helping us to recognise and see our more entrenched and ingrained patterns more clearly, so that we can potentially shift and free ourselves from them and make different choices as we move forward.

There is something incredibly liberating and transforming about this combination of Uranus, the planet of awakening, change and freedom and Pluto, the planet of transformation, power and soul evolution, which is part of a process that was seeded with the Pluto Uranus conjunction in 1965–1967 and has continued with a sextile in 1995-1997 and a square in 2012–2015. We are going through a powerful collective shift that is both exciting and challenging, and Venus is currently bringing our ways of relating into focus, helping us to find new ways of being in relationship that are very different than we have been used to. We are evolving, and so are our relationships.

Uranus brings  revolution, insight, clarity, space and freedom, along with radical new ways of communicating, while Pluto brings depth, soul evolution and the potential to liberate ourselves from some old, unhelpful patterns that may be sabotaging our relationships. A lot was stirred up with the Aries Full Moon alongside Chiron going back into Aries, so this New Moon could be asking us to recalibrate and figure out how we can show up fully as ourselves and still be loved and accepted. It asks us to be utterly authentic, alongside having deep intimacy. It asks us to fully own our shadows and find new ways of communicating that helps us to fully hear the other and also be heard ourselves. It encourages us to take a step back and recognise any unhealthy or codependent tendencies that might be playing out in our relationships.

Jupiter in Leo is helping this Moon along, bringing the potential for growth and expansion. This is a very helpful planet to have on our side, as it not only helps us to have a sense of humour about whatever is going on, but it can also help us to see the bigger picture. It can also bring generosity of spirit and a sense of gratitude for the lessons, even if they are hard. There is something quite magnanimous about Jupiter in Leo that can help us to keep our hearts open and not take it all too seriously, which could be helpful with all this Scorpio and Pluto energy. Mercury is also in Scorpio, which brings a deep and penetrating quality to our thought processes and conversations, so Jupiter in Leo does offer a bit of light relief!

The Sabian symbol for this Moon, at 18° Libra, is an interesting one: “Two men placed under arrest”, which Dane Rudyar describes as “The breakdown in the constructive relationship between the individual and society, and the expectable result. If it is to remain steady and consistent, every form of order must be able to protect itself by the application of sanctions. Both a society and a personal ego constitute forms of order. Any form of order excludes what the form cannot securely and safely hold. It excludes, or exiles, the alien, the unassimilable; if it cannot send them to outer space, it must isolate them in a special type of inner space, a prison. The individual whose actions introduce unacceptable principles into the established order runs the risk of being “punished” or re-formed according to this order. The problem for a society is how to include in its patterns of order agencies or channels for transformation – and particularly how to keep them truly operative; for individuals, it is how to make their transforming vision or impulse acceptable to society. A new step in the evolution of society – the Industrial and Electronic Revolution of the last hundred and fifty years – caused a collective, world-wide upheaval which led to widespread violence. The fact that two men are pictured under arrest suggests a polarisation and a purpose transcending a merely personal fit of recklessness. Negative as the image may seem, one may see implied in it the power in every individual to assume social risks in order to express his convictions or deepest desires. Nevertheless, one thing is needed: FACING THE CONSEQUENCES.”

While the Libra part of us might rush to restore peace and harmony, Venus retrograde in Scorpio could call us to stop and take a very good look at what isn’t working. This Sabian symbol calls for us to face the consequences and be accountable for actions, and so does Venus in Scorpio ask us to look in the mirror and recognise the part that we have played in whatever situation or dynamic we find ourselves in now. Two men under arrest are being stopped. So too might we be called to stop, take a pause and step back so that we can see what is no longer working and how we might do things differently moving forward. What patterns, unconscious agreements and ways of being in relationship have become unhealthy, imbalanced, toxic or imprisoning and how might we want to operate differently as we move into a more conscious way of being in relationship? This seems to be the seed that this Libra New Moon is planting.

Much love

Amy
