VIRGO FULL MOON / TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE - 14 March 2025
This is an incredibly powerful Full Moon, as it is also a total Lunar Eclipse, which brings a sense of completion of a cycle and ushering in a new one. Eclipses are incredibly powerful and can bring about fated experiences that change our lives and shift our consciousness. This one feels especially potent and poignant with so much energy in Pisces, the last sign in the zodiac, with its ruling planet Neptune in the very last degree of the entire zodiac. What needs to fall away for us to usher in the new energy? What might we need to resolve to move to the next phase? What in our lives is coming to a natural conclusion? What do we need to let go of so that we can move forward and grow? As one chapter ends a new one takes its place.
The Sun is in Pisces, opposing the Full Moon in Virgo, and both are activating the Nodes of the Moon, which is what makes this Full Moon so important and fateful. The North Node is currently in sensitive, intuitive and compassionate Pisces, guiding us forward, both personally and collectively, while the South Node is in helpful, analytical and perfectionistic Virgo. Virgo is a very humble, service-oriented sign that calls for us to work on ourselves to become the best that we can be, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. However, while the North Node is in Pisces we are called to release any Virgoan tendency to be hard on ourselves or overly self-critical or perfectionistic, both toward ourselves and others.
The Pisces North Node encourages us to find a greater degree of acceptance, and to forgive ourselves and others for our so-called imperfections. We are only human, and human beings make mistakes sometimes! While the Virgo part of us prefers things to be organised and in order, in neat, tidy little boxes, the Pisces North node calls for us to accept that sometimes things get a little bit messy and don’t always make sense. Pisces reminds us that ultimately, we are not in control, and to simply relax, let go and surrender to forces that are larger than us. We are invited to trust the quiet voice within that knows what is best for us, even when the guidance doesn’t make logical sense. We are encouraged to develop faith and trust that we are being guided in the right direction, even when the way is not clear.
This Moon invites us to embrace the helpful traits of Virgo and develop healthy routines that help us to take care of our mind, body and spirit. Pisces is calling for us to still the monkey mind, open our hearts and connect to the unseen, developing a deeper connection to spirit. However, as we do this, we could find ourselves more sensitised, open, vulnerable, destabilised and even overwhelmed, so it is important to eat well, get good exercise and do all we can to ground and nourish ourselves. This is a great time for meditation, Tai Chi, yoga, prayer and all forms of healing and energy work, especially in the build up to this Moon, as we could be feeling more tender, open and connected to all that is.
Saturn is sitting right next to the Pisces Sun, opposing the Moon, which also calls for us to develop greater discipline and control over ourselves and to set healthy boundaries, but could also make things feel a bit heavy and “real”. Pisces is the part of us that can tend to bury our heads in the sand when the going gets tough and may prefer to escape into fantasy land or numb out rather than facing reality. Saturn, however, is the planet of reality and the Lord of Karma, so there is no avoiding things when he is around! Saturn reminds us, in no uncertain terms, that we reap when we sow.
This Moon certainly could bring a lot up and out, possibly bringing into focus whatever we feel guilty about, so much so that we could judge ourselves and give ourselves rather a hard time! Saturn does call on us to be accountable, taking responsibility for whatever we have done or not done, while Pisces encourages us to admit where we might have gone wrong, make amends where we can and forgive ourselves and others for our human failings. We all have all done things that we regret, but rather than dwelling in guilt, it is better to simply vow to recognise where we went wrong and do better next time. If we could turn back time, how would we do things differently?
Saturn can bring up our fears and make us all too aware of our limitations but is can also help us to step up to the plate in a mature and responsible manner and create better boundaries to protect ourselves. In the build up to this Moon it could be a good idea to keep an eye on anyone in our life who may be struggling or depressed, as reality could feel hard to bear for some of the more sensitive and vulnerable souls amongst us. Virgo can bring analysis paralysis and a spiral of negative thoughts which can be a bit tricky. Those of us with personal planets or angles around 22° of a sign, especially the mutable signs Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces, will feel the energy of Saturn most acutely. The Saturn/Sun conjunction is exact on Wednesday 12 February, but will still be strong during this Moon.
Luckily, we also have Uranus, the Great Awakener, supporting the Sun and Moon, which is a welcome relief! Uranus is the planet that comes after Saturn in the planetary line-up and can help us to liberate ourselves from our fears, our judgements, our conditioning and any unhealthy patterns that might be holding us prisoner. Uranus can help us to see things from another perspective, bringing clarity, insight and greater understanding of whatever we may be facing during this time. Sometimes just seeing things from a different point of view can bring the change we need. Those of us with personal planets or angles around 23° of a sign, especially the Earth and Water signs, will benefit most from this liberating, insightful energy.
Venus and Mercury are joining together in Aries for this Full Moon, which could bring some honest, open, direct conversations around our relationships and/or our finances. Venus is currently retrograde, while Mercury is standing still, getting ready to turn retrograde on Sunday 16 March. As such, we could be pulled into the past somehow in order to review, reflect, revisit and repair any patterns that no longer serve us in the area of self-worth and relating. We may need to look backwards so that we can understand, learn, let go and move on. Combined with all of this Pisces energy, this is an ideal time to forgive and forget, so that we can move forward with peace in our hearts.
Aries could help us to be brave and bold enough to bring things up for discussion that we might usually shy away from. However, it can also mean that we say things on impulse, or in the heat of the moment, that we wish we could take back! However, being honest with ourselves and others is always helpful, and we have the potential to bring old grievances, resentments and regrets from the past out into the open so that hopefully we can make our peace with it all and move on. All this Pisces energy is inviting us to let go, tie up loose ends, find resolution and leave the past behind, while Aries calls for us to step forward and make a fresh start, trying something new on for size.
The Sabian symbol for this Full Moon, at 24° Virgo, has a certain purity to it: “Mary and her little lamb”, which Dane Rudyar describes as “The need to keep a vibrant and pure simplicity at the core of one’s being, as one meets the many tests of existence. This symbol tells us that, though great, spectacular and resolute efforts are needed in order to achieve one’s higher goals of destiny, still the essential quality as one journeys on “the Path” is pure, spontaneous, fresh and non-violent approach to all encounters. This of course is Jesus’ entreaty to his disciples – that they should be like “little children.” Without such a deep, heartfelt simplicity the seeker after spiritual experiences or Initiation is bound to find himself glamourised by his own successes, and to see his ego feeding on the drama of struggle and victory. This symbol presents us with a subtle hint of technique. Beyond individual prowess and social eminence, the individual whose innocence is fixed upon spiritual realisation should genuinely radiate INNOCENCE.”
There is an innocence and purity to this symbol that is at the core of the Virgo/Pisces polarity, which calls for us to cleanse, purify and humble ourselves so that we can truly connect with Spirit. Virgo helps us to work on ourselves, to serve others and to deflate the egocentric balloon. Pisces reminds us that ultimately we are not in control and calls for us to put our trust in the unknown, to find peace with what is and true acceptance of ourselves and others, in all our perfect imperfection. Eclipse season is upon us, shepherding in in a new chapter, while Neptune is at 29° Pisces, which represents the culmination of a karmic cycle and could be a time of profound emotional clearing and closure, with some important lessons around faith, trust, surrender, acceptance, dissolving ego and spiritual connection. It is time to truly know what it means to let go.
Much Love
