MERCURY RETROGRADE IN CANCER - June 26 - July 20 2013

The second Mercury Retrograde of the year begins on Wednesday 26 June and ends on 20 July. This time he is travelling backwards and forwards in the emotional and sensitive sign of Cancer. Since the 9th of June he has been in the shadow zone and what we have experienced since then will have some significance as Mercury turns around and goes back over the same ground he has already covered. When he turns direct on the 20th July he will pass back over it one more time, by which time we should have gained some more clarity and understanding of whatever it is we are working with. Basically this means that we may notice a recurring theme popping up between June 9th and August 3rd, though with a different flavour each time. As the retrograde is occurring in Cancer whatever we have to learn is likely to be emotional in nature and may well involve us delving into the past in order to understand our current emotional habits.

As with all Mercury retrogrades we must be aware that miscommunication and misunderstandings can easily occur so it is important to remain patient, tolerant and, above all, retain a sense of humour! Any means of communication, such as phones, computers, texts and emails, are more likely to incur problems at this time, as are any means of transportation or travel. Basically, we shouldn't be surprised if we have to deal with delays and communication breakdowns at this time, because Mercury has gone to sleep and is known for being a bit of a trickster at the best of times! It is very likely that any delays or glitches of communication will occur for a higher reason that may not be immediately apparent but will probably reveal itself in due course. This is an ideal time to simply slow down, giving our brains a rest and taking stock of our lives rather than trying to get too much done or make any big decisions. We must be open to receiving impressions and be willing to take our time, not rushing the outcome of events. To make the most of the retrograde period we should take the time to reflect, reconsider, review, revise, re-organise, re-evaluate, research and renew. That is the nature of the Mercury retrograde; taking a step back and going back over things to see what we might have missed.

This year all three of the Mercury Retrogrades this year are in the water signs, which means there will be an emphasis on honouring our feelings and trusting our intuition instead of trying to think things through rationally and logically. Basically it is a good time to give the left side of our brains a break and let the right side take the reins! Mercury retrograde has a tendency to make us look back over things and in Cancer this retro action will be heightened because Cancer rules the past, childhood and the roots of our emotional patterns. We may find ourselves experiencing strong feelings of nostalgia and longing for the past because of the safety and comfort it represents. Mercury goes retrograde at the same time as Jupiter shifts into Cancer, so there is going to be definite emphasis on family as well as opportunities to revisit emotions and feelings which we may not have processed properly the first time around. Friends, family or lovers from our past may pop up so that we can tie up any loose ends that may be preventing us from fully living in the present. Or we may rekindle a relationship that hasn't yet run its course. It is a great time to look back and gain some understanding of how past relationships, family and our childhood have contributed to the way we act and react on an emotional level as adults. Basically we could find ourselves taking trips down memory lane in order to gain more insight into our current lives and emotional habits.

Certainly this is great time to favour the emotions over the intellect because much of the planetary energy is encouraging us to honour our emotions as the amazing guides that they are. Jupiter moving into Cancer represents a shift from the busy business of Gemini, with its mental over-stimulation and over-abundance of choices, into the nurturing, sensitive, and caring nature of Cancer. Jupiter is also part of the lovely Grand Water Trine with Neptune and Saturn which is building until the 17th of July, so this is very much a time for getting in touch with our feelings and healing past wounds with love, compassion and forgiveness. We have all been through quite a lot in the last few months with the set of eclipses and the Pluto Uranus square rocking our boats, shaking things up and inciting change inside and out, so this seems like a good time to relax and allow ourselves to process it all! Mercury triggered the Pluto Uranus square around the 9th of June and will hit it again around the 20th of July, so we may be forced to have a big clear out of our thought processes, getting rid of any thoughts or ways of thinking that may be holding us back from getting what we truly want. Old habitual thought patterns must be thrown onto the rubbish heap and burned because they are simply not appropriate any more. They didn't work for us in the past, so why would we want to carry them around with us now?!

For many of us the changes have been coming thick and fast in recent times and there is a lot to process, so here is the perfect opportunity to embrace the energy of Cancer and nurture ourselves for a few weeks. It is very important that we get in touch with what is going on for us on an emotional level, because our feelings are very important guides which let us know what is going on at a deeper level. That sick feeling in the pit of our stomach (the stomach and digestive system is ruled by Cancer) or the twinge in the Solar Plexus are important signs that tell is that we are somehow doing something that doesn't resonate with our higher self. The current planetary energy invites us to take a step back and dip into our pasts to make sure we haven't missed anything important. Possibly we will need to let go of something and I think that overall it is very important that we be open to whatever may come up at this time. It is quite possible that we will be presented with the chance to revisit old connections with loved ones and find some resolution, somehow picking up where we left off. We could get some incredibly valuable insight into the “roots” of certain issues and emotional patterns, freeing us from old habits of reacting and relating which have long outgrown their use. Sometimes one has to look back in order to move forward, and I sense that this may be one of those times.

June 9th - Mercury enters retrograde zone (or shadow)
June 26 - Mercury goes officially starts "going backwards"
July 20 - Mercury starts going forwards again
August 3 - Mercury leaves the retrograde zone (or shadow)

CAPRICORN FULL MOON – Sunday 23 June 2013

Exact at 12.32pm BST, 7.32am EDT!

This is the second Perigee Super Moon this year, when the Moon will be closest to the earth and perfectly aligned with the Sun. This will amplify and intensify the effect the Full Moon has on our minds, bodies and spirits. It will also have extra power because it is so close to Friday's Summer Solstice. The Moon isn't at her most comfortable in the serious, realistic sign of Capricorn, who has a tendency to suppress emotions and be a bit hard on himself, but the overall chart for this Full Moon is very supportive and feminine in nature so that should make up for it. As Full Moons bring that which is unconscious into the light, shining light on our shadows, it is possible that we might be in for a bit of a reality check this weekend. It is very important that we pay attention to our feelings because they act as a guide and let us know what is working for us and what we should avoid or let go of. It is possible that this Moon may bring up some emotions that were hitherto stuck or suppressed so that we can let go of them in the spirit of forgiveness and compassion.

This Full Moon is in the serious, pragmatic and responsible sign of Capricorn and is sitting directly opposite the Sun in the emotional, sensitive and nurturing sign of Cancer. Cancer represents our inner world and emotional foundation while Capricorn represents outer accomplishment and worldly success. The focus of the Full Moon is to find a balance between the energy of the two signs. On the Summer Solstice the Sun moves into Cancer so the next month will involve the themes of home, family, roots, our deepest feelings and inner emotional landscape. It is a good time to think about what kind of core foundation we require in order to feel emotionally secure and nurtured. Cancer rules our childhood and our past so we may find ourselves looking back in order to make sense of the childish patterns which may still rule our lives. To add to the sensitive, feeling nature of this Full Moon we also have Mercury (mind and communication) and Venus (love, relating and attraction) sitting right next to each other in Cancer. This will help us to talk about our innermost feelings and express our emotional needs and what we might require from our closest relationships in order to feel fulfilled. The combination of the two planets favours expressing our emotions easily and in a way that can be understood by those close to us.

The energy of Capricorn is quite different to Cancer! While Cancer is ruled by the Moon and represents our feeling nature and inner life, Capricorn is all about discipline, responsibility, achievement and outer success. He is the mountain goat who sets his sights on his goals and makes his way slowly but surely to the top of the mountain through sheer hard work and determination. This is the sign of commitment, endurance, structure and boundaries and with the Moon here it is likely that we will be focusing on serious matters such as our long term plans and and what we really want for ourselves. If the Moon is our emotions, Capricorn may make them a bit heavy and serious and may make us very aware of any that we may have been holding back or suppressing so they can't flow properly. It is quite possible that this Moon may involve some kind of reality check. The Moon in Capricorn can create angst and tension so it is important not to be too hard on ourselves, but rather focus on what kind of emotional foundation we need in order to create the life we want. Capricorn may hold back initially, but when he commits he's in for the long haul. It is best to make sure that it is what we really want before jumping in!

Saturn in Scorpio is the ruler of the Capricorn Full Moon, and since November he has been challenging us to face our deepest darkest fears, dredging up anything that may be preventing us from connecting with others on a deep emotional level and experiencing true intimacy. He is the wise old man who is currently testing us in the areas of emotional commitment, trust, power and powerlessness, sexuality, shared resources, vulnerability and emotional truth. During this Moon he is not only forming a positive aspect to the Moon herself but is also part of the lovely, flowing Grand Water Trine that is gracing us with her presence for most of the summer! This Trine in the emotional, sensitive water signs is going to help us get more in touch with our unconscious feelings and become more attuned to the subtle energies at work in our lives. It has the potential to help us face our fears with compassion and forgiveness, allowing us to connect with each other on a deeper, more intuitive level. We have the chance to dissolve some of what is holding us back from experiencing true intimacy and fulfilment of our emotional needs and move towards more joyful, loving, supportive relationships with ourselves and others. This Full Moon illuminates the Grand Trine beautifully, but we must remember that the benefits won't necessarily happen automatically, but rather we must be open and willing to truly listen to our feelings because they are our guide. Our body gives us very clear clues as to how we are feeling about something but we must listen and be open to its message.

Jupiter is adding his expansive energy to this Moon through a conjunction to the Sun, although he is in Gemini rather than Cancer so it is not a strong aspect. His presence is powerful however because he is sitting in the very last degree of busy, curious and communicative Gemini, waiting to make the shift into emotional, nurturing and home loving Cancer on Wednesday. He will be in Cancer for the next year. He is also part of the Grand Water Trine which will be building in intensity until the 17th of July when it will be exact. He will be helping us deeply connect with others on an emotional level and tap into what truly nurtures us at our core. Jupiter tends to expand and exaggerate the qualities of the sign he is in, so we are about to experience a shift from the busy, mentally active Gemini into the emotionally nourishing and family oriented sign of Cancer. I feel that this might bode well for us all, as Jupiter does very much like being in Cancer! We will be more concerned about what we need on an emotional level, focusing more on our inner, emotional world and what we need to feel protected, nurtured and loved. Jupiter will bring the potential for growth, expansion, joy and good fortune within our family and home lives. That sounds lovely to me!

This super moon is a powerful one indeed, with quite a serious tone, and brings the potential for us to experience a hard dose of reality but is also a great opportunity to shed some light on what we really want for ourselves in the long term. There is a great deal of supportive energy between the planets and a strong emphasis on honouring our feelings and sharing them with others. Capricorn energy is cautious, committed and enduring so there is a sense that we may have to hold back initially in order to make sure that the emotional foundation is solid before we proceed. Capricorn wants to make sure things are valid and viable before he commits! Ultimately we would all have lives and relationships that are a true reflection of who we are, with a supportive, loving home life to help us grow and flourish in the outer world. This Moon may bring to light any imbalance between the two signs energies – our inner emotional landscape and our outer, public life. It may also bring up emotions that we have hitherto ignored or invalidated which may be blocking us from truly opening up and experiencing emotional intimacy and commitment. We have all been guilty of suppressing feelings or distracting ourselves from dealing with our emotions - through work, eating, shopping, drug, alcohol, or even by simply trying to be the good guy – there are any number of ways we can avoid confronting our true feelings! This Moon will very likely shine a rather harsh light on our lives and emotions so that we can unblock some of the energy which may be holding us back from connecting more deeply with people and our own authenticity. The Grand Trine holds the promise of our dreams coming true but first Capricorn must make sure that they are valid and viable!. Only then can we can move forward with full integrity, in the knowledge that we are on the right path.

Much love

GEMINI NEW MOON – Saturday 8 June 2013

Exact 3.55pm BST, 10.55am EDT

This New Moon involves two powerful aspect patterns which seems quite appropriate considering the dualistic nature of Gemini! On the one hand there is a lovely grand trine in the feminine, emotional, water signs, while on the other hand there is a tense T-square involving Mercury, the ruler of the New Moon, Pluto and Uranus. New Moons are a powerful time for planting seeds which will later manifest and none more so than this one as Gemini in the planet of the mind and our thoughts have more power to manifest during a New Moon. We must be very careful of what we think and say at this time because the narrative we tell ourselves and others can easily become our reality. We really do get what we believe so we must be very aware of what we are telling ourselves! This Spring has involved a fair amount of tension and turbulence, with three eclipses in a row stirring things up for us and the Pluto Uranus square bringing tornadoes, floods, fires, explosions, protests and unrest both personally and globally, but the next couple of months hold the promise of calmer times, with some more soothing, calming planetary aspects to look forward to. During this Moon it is important to honour our feelings instead of getting caught up in our heads and to make sure that whatever we are asking for truly comes from the heart. The New Moon may be in mind-oriented Gemini but the Mercury, the ruler of Gemini, is in the emotional water sign Cancer and is asking us to listen to our hearts and practice emotional intelligence.

Gemini season is upon us and the pace is always faster when the Sun is in this lively, curious and sociable sign! During this time we may feel more of an urge to go out into the world and be around people, sharing our ideas and making new connections. Gemini is the sign of the mind and communication which brings with it possibility of much chatter, both within our own heads and with the outside world. Gemini represents the energy of the city, fast paced, lots of information being shared, a hive of activity. This month certainly does have a lively, sociable feeling to it, that's for sure! This Gemini New Moon brings an opportunity for a mental spring clean; a time to clear out any thoughts of beliefs that no longer serve us. We all have a story or narrative that we have been telling ourselves for years, consciously or unconsciously, but it simply no longer holds true and it is time to throw it out into the rubbish! This Moon will help us recognise the thought patterns that are holding us back from moving forward in the way we want to. Thoughts are energy, so if we change them we change everything. Self-limiting thoughts have to go, making way for a new way of thinking which allows us to move forward and bring everything to us that we deserve!

Mercury, the ruler of this New Moon, is in the emotional, sensitive and nurturing sign of Cancer, which means that we are being asked to practice emotional intelligence. Our hearts know better than our minds as they impart the wisdom of our souls, so it is far more important to listen to them than to be distracted by the incessant chatter of our brains! It is important to honour whatever emotion comes up whether it be anger, fear, longing, grief, disappointment, jealousy or resentment, recognising it and thinking about where it might be originating from but not allowing it to rule or define us. Our feelings can provide us with tremendous insight and wisdom if we are only open to their messages. They can help us guide us through life as long as we allow them to flow through us rather than over identifying with them. It is better to contemplate where the emotions are coming from, recognising that they will pass and thinking about what might need to change in order for us not to feel this way again. If we feel fear, recognise that it is an emotion that will pass, and move through it. The more we move through fears rather than letting them define us the easier it gets. “Oh, I am feeling fear. I have been here before. What's causing it this time?”. Of course any time we experience feelings of joy and bliss we should recognise what caused them too and make sure we do much, much more of whatever that may be!

Mercury is involved in a tense T-square with the infamous Pluto and Uranus during this New Moon, which could have a profound effect on the way we think. We may experience a shift in perception, a moment of truth which may leave us a little shaken up but which will ultimately transform a belief or a narrative that is holding us back. Ways of thinking that simply no longer work for us will be broken down (Pluto) in order for us to experience a breakthrough (Uranus) and reach a new level of understanding. We may experience an “Aha!” moment that will come from the realisation of a somewhat painful truth, or suddenly realise that an old pattern or way of thinking simply isn't relevant any more because we have moved on. We may also experience worry, nervous tension and/or obsessive thoughts as a not so pleasant by-product of the square. The energy of the square could make us become acutely aware of deeply ingrained and destructive thought patterns which keep repeating themselves through our lives, but which must now be let go of if we are to move forward and stand in our truth with integrity.

Venus is also involved in this T-square, loosely at the New Moon but gaining in strength towards Tuesday and Wednesday. Venus is the planet of love, relating and attracting, and what we value in life. This will bring up issues of self-worth and self-esteem and remind us that the way we feel about ourselves has a direct bearing on what and who we bring into our lives. We may experience a shift in the area of love and attraction and possibly an awakening based on the realisation of a painful truth. Old patterns of relating that no longer work for us must be let go of because the they simply aren't part of who we are becoming! The value we place on ourselves has a direct bearing on what we attract into our lives, and this T-square may make us all too aware of how we hold ourselves back from giving and receiving love. Whatever we think about ourselves is mirrored by the outside world, so if we believe that we are worthy of love and abundance then that is just what we will get, while if we harbour a deep-seated belief that there is something wrong with us then we will find that what we truly want somehow always eludes us. We may well come to a realisation of just how our energy affects who and what we bring into our lives, and how our old, outworn patterns are holding us back from getting what we really truly yearn for. This realisation may shake us up a bit but ultimately it will help us move closer towards whatever it is we are truly longing for.

Venus is also forming a harmonious and flowing trine with Neptune in Pisces and Saturn is Scorpio, which is tremendously uplifting and inspiring, although we will still have to work for it! The good news is that the trine between Neptune and Saturn will grace us with its presence for the rest of the summer. This harmonious connection between the two will help us ground our dreams and aspirations (Neptune) in reality (Saturn). My sense is that while this trine does hold the promise of our dreams coming true, it won't happen without us doing the necessary emotional work on ourselves. Saturn in Scorpio wants us to dig deep and work on emotional honesty, taking a long, hard look at ourselves and dredging up some stuff which is quite painful to face and Neptune is there to soothe and heal with her all encompassing compassion and empathy. This combination may also cause us to redefine our dreams so that they are more realistic and in keeping with who we actually are. Sometime what we want doesn't come in the package we were expecting it to come in, and this may well be the case when these two planets are involved. With Venus involved in this Grand Trine during there is a sense of us being able to attract exactly what we need into our lives, and we are definitely being encouraged to go after what we want. After the intensity of the past couple of months such uplifting and inspiring energy is definitely a welcome relief!

The energy of this Moon is most interesting, and I am curious as to how it will play out! There is a sense of things shifting and our perception changing, which is very exciting. It is an ideal time to go out into the world and socialise, bouncing ideas off people and forming contacts. It is most important to stay in touch with our feelings and let them guide us because our heart has so much to teach if we are only willing to listen. If you write any intentions for this Moon, make sure that they come from your heart not your head. Now is a great time to form a vision of how we would like our lives to be and focus on it. It seems that we are likely to experience some kind of a shake-up which opens us up to a new awareness and allows us to shed old thought patterns and beliefs that no longer serve us. This could be a little jarring but will bring us much closer to the truth of who we are rather than the story we have always told ourselves. The grand water trine brings the promise that whatever we can imagine for ourselves is indeed possible but we must be willing to do some deep inner work, choosing to overcome the emotions which hold us back from attracting what we want into our lives. Our attitude and beliefs have an enormous effect on what we bring into our lives and this New Moon will highlight just how much. In order to manifest what we desire we have to truly believe that we deserve it and are worthy of it. Once we make that switch amazing things can happen!

Much love
